Podcast 20 – Tools of the Subconscious Trade

Play

It takes a lot of guts to look at your life and decide you need to make changes.  This is a bold, brave move, should you be considering doing so.  Most people are content to live their lives on a daily grind – the treadmill analogy – without ever stopping long enough to do a deep-dive and see if something needs to change.

If you have done so, I salute you.  In this Podcast, we are going to look at some tools that were a big part of my own process of making radical changes to the programming of my subconscious mind that have resulted in a dynamic, powerful life.  Wherever you are now, have hope that you can create a life you love.

It takes time.  It’s not a drive-through solution.  But you can do it.  In this podcast are some tools to help you along the way.

Podcast 19 – Beliefs

Play

This podcast might ruffle your feathers a bit!  Let it.  Much of what your life looks like today is because of the beliefs you have developed over the years.  Because the beliefs we hold generally are derived either from our own observation and experience, or taught to us by those we either reviere or respect greatly, we hold them tightly.  Beliefs we would die for are our core values.  These are our most deeply held beliefs.

Good things that appear in our life come as the result of our beliefs.  Resentment, hate, negativity, job loss, divorce, etc. also come from beliefs.

Let’s examine what we believe and why.  Hopefully, you’ll see that many of your beliefs can (and should) be challenged, and as you look at what you believe from a fresh perspective, you can eliminate beliefs that don’t serve you and adopt those that will move you in the direction you want your life to go.  You just have to be willing to examine, release, and change those things you have held dear.

If you change a belief because of this podcast, please email me and tell me about it.  thomas@subconsciousmindmastery.com

Podcast 18 – David, Goliath and FEAR!

Play

This was too good to pass up.  I was in a meeting not long ago with a really great guy who has an amazing perspective on life, faith, spirituality, and serving other people.  He is a constant radar for folks who might need his help.  And he will alter his schedule and give his time to anyone who crosses his path who might need a hand.  I’m very pleased that we will now be working together in a significant capacity in my life.

After we completed the business part of the meeting, we started talking about personal matters and it didn’t take long for the topic to turn to church, faith, and the true application of Christianity and spirituality.  He has a very refreshing look on how faith should be lived out in our lives and as a little example of his more practical perspective, he told me the old familiar story of David and Goliath, but like I’d never heard it before.  I had to share it with you, and there’s a great application we can work into our own lives every day.

Podcast 17 – Manifestations

Play

There’s so much focus on The Law of Attraction these days.  The movie, “The Secret”, revived great interest in how we can concentrate our thoughts and have that manifest in our life.  The Subconscious Mind is the portal to the spiritual world.  In this podcast, we’ll talk about Manifesting, Tornados and a story from a chapter of my life of how something was born in my mind, and it finally manifest in my life.  There were 4 steps that led to the manifestation, and you’ll find out what they are.

Podcast 14 – Rules, Rules, Rules Part 4

You’re listening to Subconscious Mind Mastery podcast number 14, part three of a three part series.

My name is Thomas Miller. If you haven’t caught part 1 or 2, go back to 12 and 13 and get a running start because you won’t get the context of this podcast if you haven’t listened to those other two. But in this one we are going to put a bow around it all and we’re going to wrap everything up and look at how we can deal with these yeah but resistances. And the other big thing that we’re going to cover today is how to deal with our identity because it’s those resistances, it’s that yeah but resistance combined with the accentuation I guess, the enlargement of our self-ego, our identity that keep us from what we want. So that’s what we’re going to unpack in this podcast. And I hope that this series has helped you understand a little bit better of how you got to where you are and why certain things have been the way they are, when it might have been a little bit mysterious before, because this is really, really, really huge. We build out whole lives around these perspectives that we’ve discussed. The world according to me is built on exactly what we’ve talked about, that very early on in our development, sometimes even back into the womb or before the womb, that we were formulated with predispositions or impacted with certain circumstances, stimuli programming that gave us a certain perspective on this new thing that we were born into called life. And from that perspective we basically stepped out into the world as a little magnet and we started to do life.

Life rewarded us according to how we were polarizing, how we were magnetizing, the vortex, that energy that we had. And even as little kids we started to build interpretations and beliefs about how life was, lots of if then correlations of the circumstances that if I do this and I get that result then we program our belief system from there. And then a lot of things are taught to us by our environment, by our parents, our school, our church etc. And all of that goes into what we really probably into our teenage years and live through our teenage years with this perspective of, oh okay, this is life. Some people have a really great start and they end up just sailing through. And literally I think that’s … it’s the combination, it’s generic predisposition and it’s the programming. A lot of us have not had that luxury and we’ve had to work on ourselves. And I would dare say that most of us find ourselves in the latter category rather than the former. So we’ve built all these rules up about life. And the problem is, is if we look at somebody else’s life and they’ve built a different set of rules and those rules might be an opposite polarity of our rules, but yet life works for them according to their rules and life works for us according to our rules. And so you can’t say that our rules are ‘right’, right by whose interpretation? They’re right for us because that’s how we’ve interpreted that we need to build a belief system in order to in essence, survive this thing called life, which we find as sometimes not safe.

So the biggest key, I’m telling you, this is the 80/20 rule of what I did to turn myself around is when I finally was able to give up those rules. And I will tell you, it is the hardest process you will go through because those are your rules. You worked hard to develop those rules. Life itself has put together that bundle of rules for you. This is how you believe the way that it is. Now let me stop and say right here, if life is working for you, then don’t listen to this, turn it off, because those are the rules that you want to ultimately develop, is the rules that make life work for you. I am talking to the people here that have been challenged and that are struggling and that have stuff in their life that doesn’t work well for them. That’s the audience for this series. If life is working for you, great, then don’t change what has got you there. Pardon the bad grammar.

I have a good friend right now in my life who is in that second category, that it just, life just works for this guy and it has for a long time. And he moves and he sails through life so almost effortlessly. And everything he touches does well. And I sent him an email the other day and I said, “Well I know you well enough to know that I can just say congratulations on things going well.” You know how normally we send an email and we say, “I hope things are going well for you?” Well I just said, “Hey, congratulations, I know things are going well for you.” And he sent back lol. He thought that was funny. But that’s where we want to get to and that’s what this whole website and podcast is all about is how to reprogram that old programming, because it is, it’s stuck in our subconscious minds. And our subconscious minds are that driver, that spiritual force, that unconscious propeller if you will, that directs our lives in a certain way according to that programming. We press certain programming on the subconscious mind, it locks onto that and it goes out to fulfill it. So for example, my friend is programmed towards success. So he wakes up in the morning and certain things are just working for him, things are lined up, phone calls are ready, emails are in his box and that’s what he intended to do. A lot of us wake up with a tremendous amount of fear and anxiety and stress.

And our life unfolds according to that programming because our subconscious mind is fulfilling what our conscious mind is pressing upon it day after day, emotion after emotion. And this is where you have to guard every single thought that you allow yourself to hold in your mind. Thoughts can come and go, you can have a thought about, oh that jerk driver, and then you can just let it go. And you go “No, no, no, I’m sorry, negate that, I didn’t mean to say that, I bless that person, hey, I hope they have a happy day.” And you can, literally, you can, like a ping pong ball you can have a thought come in and you can whack it back out. But there are other thoughts that we hold on to and those are the ones that you have to have an extra sensitive alert guard of what you’re thinking at any given moment, because it’s those thoughts, and as Napoleon Hill would say, if you combine the thought with the intensity of the emotion of love or the passion of sex, go read Think and Grow Rich, he talks about this in one of the early chapters. It’s great stuff. It’s the thoughts that you hold with that intense emotion, it’s those thoughts that impress the subconscious mind. So if you wake up like I did in the RV for a year there with just fear and terror and anxiety, that’s what’s being impressed on your subconscious mind. That’s what’s programming your subconscious mind.

And so what we’re about here is to identify that, that’s what we’re doing in this three part series and then a lot of techniques of how you can un-program and reprogram that to the life that you really love. Okay. Sorry, I got off track there a little bit. But really this is so important. And this is the deal, it’s yeah but, wherever you see yourself in the resistance of yeah but, Thomas, you don’t understand. Yeah, but I can’t give up that because that’s the way that we used to do it. Oh, here’s a big one, yeah, but our religion teachers or yeah, but look, my life is a mess right now and what you’re telling me to do is to believe that it could be any different, or like the conversation I had last night, “Yeah, but you don’t understand my job and you don’t get my boss.” Yeah but, wherever you see yeah but, I want you to stop, get your journal out and write about it, yeah but, here some yeah but resistance showed up for me today. And unpack that. Stop right there, if you have to wait to do it, I would do it right in the moment because that’s where the intensity of the emotion is, if you at all can, do it in the moment, if you can’t, set it aside but come back to it and get back into that emotion of that yeah but. And unpack that resistance. Where is it coming from? Trace it back.

Follow the steps that we’ve talked about in these podcasts, trace it back to the point of origin in your life, when did this first show up. Ask yourself, why is this emotion so strong for me right now. Find out why it’s serving you. What is it that is in your life or has been in your life where the payoff is, what is this doing to serve you? Because you wouldn’t hold onto it if it wasn’t serving you in some way, so it’s protecting something. And if you connect what bad emotions or what … I won’t say bad emotions, that’s not the correct phrasing, it’s the emotions that aren’t leading you where you want to go. If you can capture those emotions and then figure out what it is in your past that that’s changed to, it’s coupled with something, and if you find what that’s changed to, that’s where you need to go back and deal with that issue. And in dealing with that issue, there might be reprogramming that needs to take place. The people involved might not be alive anymore, you might not be able to go back and reconcile with them if it was a person involved. It might be a series of things where look and you just say, “Oh, I see how life has been according to this pattern.” And that’s where you have to shift that magnet vortex. Is this making sense to you? I hope that it is and I hope that it’s been beneficial.

I had somebody send me an email yesterday and just said, “Thank you Thomas.” And it had about eight exclamation marks after it. And so I really appreciate that. And by the way, if you wouldn’t mind, hit the comment box or the voting on iTunes, I would really appreciate that, if you’d take just a minute and vote and leave a comment, I’d love to know how this is impacting you. So if you’re willing to capture those yeah but moments, those points of resistance, that area when you just, man you’re dug in and this is the way it’s going to be, the next biggest thing that you’re going to have to deal with is yourself, and I’m saying self with capital S, your ego, your essence, your identity, because who we are is really an accumulation of all these beliefs and rules that we … that’s how we go out and do life. So what I’m suggesting you do is that you be willing to lay down the rules and release the identity that is so attached to you.

I’ve been working through this and this is where I am in my process right now, for myself. I told you I had a coach, I’ve been working with this coach for about six months. And when we first started I had so many yeah but’s, it wasn’t even funny. I couldn’t wait for my coach to say something so that I could just say, “Yeah, but.” It almost became sport, because I also realized that one of the biggest, deepest, ingrained things that I had going on my psyche and my belief system was that I had to be right every time, game over, I had to be right. And I would do anything in the world to be right and to make you wrong if I had to, so that I could be right. And now I can tell you, the veil is falling off. Here’s also where it would be really great to have an accountability partner, somebody who understands this and understands you enough so that when you get caught back in your stuff and you get back in that rut, because we all do, they can help snap you out of it. They can help bring you out and say, “Wait a minute; you’re going back in that direction. So that’s why I have a coach and we talk on the phone once a week.

And I have my buddy from … who was a roommate in college who I offended at one point in our lives together about 20 years ago. I really offended him. And we were able fortunately to patch up our relationship and now we meet regularly and I go hang it out there, I tell him everything. And I tell him, “Look, I’ve had a bad week, I’ve really been up in it this week.” In fact that was kind of our last conversation. And he helps bring me back out of that. So you need to build that into your life. It’s invaluable. Don’t go at this alone, you need people around you who will help you and hold you accountable to this, because as you identify it and you start to rebuild it then you get a new habit system. And then after a certain period of time you’ll know yourself when you’ve crossed the line because the new programming is so entrenched now that when you violate it like you used to all the time, it really catches you, it stands out, like oh man, I’m going back to that again, whoa, wait, wait, wait, let’s turn, shift back, breathe, that’s not who I am anymore.

Okay, I’ve given you yeah but, I want to give you two more words because this is the shift point. So we’ve identified it and you’re willing to release it, great, excellent, let me welcome you to the rest of your life. How do you step into it? The two words I want to give you are ‘I am’. Wayne Dyer talks about this but it’s not his, believe me, I mean you can trace it back to the old testament where God said, “I am” up there on the mountain when he was giving the 10 commandments (more rules) to Moses. I’m just kidding, but you get the point. Okay. I am, is setting the essence of I am ignoring where I am today. I am setting the intention, I am creating the who I am now.

You remember in the last podcast I told you about Darren Weissman – Dr Darren Weissman and his lifeline technique. After he has looked back with people at that defining moment, that moment of fear in their life when they were 22 months old, then he creates the new who I am. He says, “You wouldn’t choose fear to define you would you? Would you at 22 months old if you could, choose to live the rest of your life in fear?” You say, “Of course not.” Well the next question is who are you now? What do you choose? This is your greatest power is your ability to choose. And so you say, “I choose to be bold and dynamic, powerful and courageous.” And in that lifeline technique process that he does he has people state that in a sentence, “I am bold, dynamic, powerful and courageous.” And if you’ll do that for yourself and say it with that kind of emotion for yourself, it’s amazing how you feel, it just … it lifts you up. So what you’re doing is you’re creating an I am statement and putting it out there into the universe. You’re saying, “I am bold, dynamic, powerful and courageous.” Now, you might look around your life and you don’t see bold or dynamic or powerful, courageous, you don’t see the fruit of that, you don’t see the presence of that. And that’s where we say the other two words, ‘yeah but’, yeah but Thomas, my life is all messed up and you don’t understand, I’m not bold and I’m not dynamic. And we let today’s current circumstances dictate who we are. And so what we say is, “I am my current circumstances.” And that’s that spin cycle that we never get out of.

To make this work in your life you have to say, “I am bold, dynamic, powerful, courageous” when everything around you says otherwise. But this is where you are changing your identity. Let’s say you want to be an author, so you would say, “I am a published author. I am a writer.” Now, what do writers do? Well they write, right. So if you’re saying, “I am a writer”, the next thing you have to do is take steps in the direction of being who you are saying you are, because ultimately isn’t it the actions that we take that define the results that we get? And so if you say, “I am a writer”, not, “I want to be”, you don’t say, “I want to be a writer”, want creates a gap because you’re here, being a writer is over there and there’s a distance, there is a missing element between you and there and that is a publishing contract. So you say, “I want to be a writer one day.” No. No, no, no, change that, “I am a writer.” And writers write. So every day spend some time writing, that’s what I’m doing, so why don’t you come join me if that’s what you want to do. But whatever it is say, “I am” and step into the reality, the identity of that I am.

I gave a speech about this to a group of people just this past week who are wanting to become speakers. And when I talked about stepping into the identity of being a speaker now, I said, “Think about, if you could … think about a successful public speaker who’s doing it successfully, if you could step into their world, step into their identity, if you could become them, if you could have their contact book for 24 hours, if you could know what they know and have experienced what they’ve experienced, and you could own that identity, how would that change your perspective on everything. And then so much beyond that, how much would that change your actions of what you did every day? If you knew what they knew and if you had experienced what they’d experienced, and if you thought the way they thought, it would completely shift your dynamic.” Well, you can almost do that by taking on this new identity by saying, “I am a public speaker, and I’m successful and I’m booked 52 weeks a year.” And then what do you do? Well, if you’re a speaker, speakers speak. And if you don’t have anybody paying you to speak right now, Toastmasters is a great way to go get some speaking experience. And in the process you’re going to keep developing your I am a public speaker. What will happen is the universe will come along and support your I am statement because it won’t let you hang out there by yourself for very long as an I am identity without coming along to support you to fulfill that.

But do you see how carefully we have to guard our thoughts, because if you say, “I am a loser, I am fearful, I am someone who life just doesn’t work for.” Or let’s take a negative, “I am too good for this. I am someone with too much experience to be doing this.” Well if you are then why aren’t you? See we sometimes conjure up false I am’s in order to cover up what isn’t working in our life. And that brings us back full circle to lay it down. If you’re willing to give it up then you can rebuild it with a new I am. So create a new I am today that serves you and that takes you in the direction of where you want to go. If you say, “I am love. I am a person of love.” Well, go find somebody to love today, go find an animal to love today, but go find some expression of love that’s new in your life.” If you say, “I’m a person of peace, I choose to be at peace”, then take steps to go do something to be at peace, go meditate, go do yoga, go pray.

The other thing I would suggest you do is to write this down on an index card and keep it by your bedside. In fact, I would keep it in several places. That’s what I do. I keep it in my car and I keep it up on the bathroom mirror and I keep it by my bedside. I keep it in a journal and I have an electronic journal so I am kind of a little bit over the top. You know what they say, “The acorn doesn’t fall too far from the tree.” But I’ve written stuff up on the bathroom mirror for several years now and every day I make sure that I take some kind of a step toward the identity that I’ve created, even if it’s five minutes, take some kind of action.

So basically this podcast series has outlined a lot of the major points that it took for me to change my life from this point to that. The comprehension, the understanding that I had to achieve in order to understand what I needed to change and then some of the steps that I took to change it. And I hope it really makes a difference for you. If it has I’d really appreciate it if you’d share it with your friends and leave some comments there in iTunes or on the website or both. My name is Thomas Miller.

Podcast 13 – Rules, Rules, Rules Part 2

You’re listening Subconscious Mind Mastery podcast number 13.

This is part 2, a sequel of podcast number 12. So if you have not listened to 12, if somehow you landed here first, please drop back and listen to 12. We’ll be right here when you get back, I promise, we’re not going anywhere. And you won’t get what we’re talking about if you don’t go back to 12, because I’m just going to pick up and we’re going to roll on from number 12. So stop back there and then we’ll see you back here. If you’ve already listened to 12, welcome back, let’s roll on. You saw how life was formulated for me because of that programming. And the thing that you have to understand is the intensity. It’s not that it … if anything else were normal there’s no argument here. There is no issue. But because of that 200 times intensity, that was the catching deal of why those first 22 months were so dramatic when all of a sudden that was gone. It was a separation breakdown. And look, I was a kid in the 60s and a teenager in the 70s and I didn’t rebel. I really was a great kid growing up because I didn’t want to deal with that 200 times upset. And that’s also why the religiosity fit in so well for me. Well, also because there wasn’t really a choice, but that’s beside the point. It was either live or die.

And I say all of this in the context of my mom passed away just a couple of months ago in February. And it was because of this healing, this process that I’m talking about with you in this podcast, and what happened to me through what I’m going to outline in this podcast, allowed me to be at her bedside with my brother and his wife holding my mom while she took her last sips of air. And so this material and this work that you can do and that I did, allowed me to be in that place. And so this is not dishonoring my mom for who she was. She was who she was. This is honoring her by the very process of saying that you and I can change whatever was given to us. Look, she did the best she could. And that’s what I saw that Mother’s Day in that service in Dallas was I just … the veil pulled back and I saw her heart and it just made me weep.

Now look, this was my story. And you have to catch what it was for you. And you’ll have to do your own work with this. For me it took about 18 months probably before all of the context of this came into place. But it took me gathering resources from a lot of different places before I could package the whole thing together and get the clarity. What worked for me may not work for you. The ingredients of what I’m going to tell you in this podcast may not work for you. There’s also a context that you, you know, I listen to hours of material and hours of these broadcasts on Hay House Radio and listened to the Science of Getting Rich and Kelly Howell’s brainsync.com programs. And just all of this, it took all of this together, combined, and the ingredient of time. So if you’re in the midst of it and you’re trying to see your way out of a dark box, just hang in there and stay with this process and give it the ingredient and the seasoning of time and just stay in the inquiry of wanting to get to the bottom of it because that’s ultimately what got me there. What you’re looking for is that package of how you are the way you are, why you look at the world the way you do, why you respond to things the way you do, why you interact with others the way you do, why there are personality conflicts in relationships where they show up, why some things work in your life and why some things don’t.

So from this early programming that takes place in those formative years of our life, two things start to happen. Life itself programs us. We begin to develop belief systems based on correlations between if then situations, if I do this then this happens, therefore I believe that x plus y equals z. But the problem is we often build that as a hard fixed rule about life. And the older we get and the more that we start to have more experiences based on our reactions and interactions from that early programming, then life unfolds either positively, negatively or for some, I guess, neutral. But from that early programming, life starts to unfold. And then we narrow down our rules and our beliefs because it’s happening to us the way that that original programming starts to unfold for us. And see the problem with this is you just don’t have to look very far else outside your life before you see somebody who has built a different set of rules and a different set of beliefs and life is working for them according to those rules and beliefs. And that negates your rules and beliefs. And you have to be really careful what you hold onto.

Let me give you two examples, remember from previous podcasts, the pastor who when I was about 25 years old told me that I was his biggest disappointment. And that subconsciously programmed me for the rest of my adult life. And it was so subtle I didn’t catch it. We were sitting in Vale, Colorado when that happened and there weren’t any fireworks up on the mountain and there wasn’t some plane flying by with a banner that says, ‘Thomas, you’re the biggest disappointment in my life’. It was subtle. It just was a passing statement. And the conversation went on, but I didn’t hear anything else.

Take in contrast, former President Carter, my friend Stewart Couch, a couple of podcasts back, the one on life and death programming, Stewart is involved with the Carter Center and has known President and Mrs. Carter for many years. And he was recently down in Georgia at a conference down there. And Stewart and I were talking about the excitement of that, he was really lit up by the weekend. And we were talking about President Carter and I was telling him that how I thought President Carter was so amazing because here was a man who came from almost relative obscurity, I mean he owned a peanut business in Georgia and then became governor of Georgia. And then one day ran for president and became president of the United States. And President Carter has written about this. But Stewart reminded me of the story that a school teacher – one of his school teachers in class one day said to the class, “It wouldn’t surprise me if one of you boys grew up to become president one day.” Now, there were obviously several boys in the class. I don’t remember the exact story. President Carter has written about it. But nobody else heard it, but President Carter, Jimmy Carter, young student Jimmy Carter, in a passing moment the conversation went on, caught that and it stayed with him. And his subconscious mind became programmed, and he said, “You know what; I’m going to become president one day.” Does that not send chills down your spine?

So you see how the package of you comes together, genetically predisposed to certain things, very early formative programming from your environment, from your parents or whoever raised you, whoever was in your life at that time, all of the emotions, all of the circumstances, the happy, the sad, the intensity, the dysfunctionality, all of that goes into a big package that becomes you, and you start to experience life, life starts to unfold according to that experience and then you start to develop rules and beliefs about how life is. Now look, I know some guys who I’ve hung out with over the years who are amazingly successful. And it’s just like they came out of school that way.

I remember one guy in particular who ended up in the real estate business here in the Dallas, Fort Worth area and he came out of college and literally stepped into this amazing job. His personal aura, his energy is so amazingly high all the time, and he’s been that way for the last 30 years, made tons of money and been tremendously successful in a booming, what over those period of decades was a booming industry here in Dallas, Fort Worth. Well guess what, life didn’t hand him what it handed me in those early years. He got a different start. So by college he had developed a bunch of beliefs and rules that life was a playground, life was a fun place, a sandbox and he was going to go have fun and he was going to make a lot of money doing it, and that was his belief system. And it served him according to those beliefs, all of his adult life. He stayed the same, family still together, great career, stayed at the same church all these years, life is good. He would turn this off because it’s not for him. But for those of us who had a different path and things started out differently, we have some work to do.

But you can see how all of those experiences develop who we are. And so when we launch into adulthood, that’s the vibration, like I was talking about my friend, that’s the vibration that we go out into life with. And that’s the vortex, if you watch Esther Hicks and Abraham on YouTube, that’s the vortex that she’s talking about. That’s the law of vibration. That’s the energy around the law of attraction. Do you see how that is so early programmed into us? And then life starts to unfold according to that programming. And we’re not aware of it as kids. I guarantee you, my friend thought that that was just the way life was and he would look around and wonder why so many people had so many challenges, because his psychology just wasn’t there. He couldn’t identify with it. I would look at a guy like that and say, “There’s a freak of nature. He’s not normal.” Or you look at him and you wonder how in the world does a guy like that get so lucky? It wasn’t about luck, he had just formulated early on in his life a series of beliefs that that could happen for him.

Here’s something that’ll knock you between the eyes. I’m reading Frederick Dodson right now; the book is called Parallel Universes of Self. He says this, he says, “Everybody in your life is somebody that you attracted.” You think, oh, no way. Well, that’s why I said, this’ll hit you right between the eyes. But if you think that you are a resonant magnet out there in the world, that’s the law of attraction. That’s Esther Hicks, that’s Abraham, that’s the vortex, that’s all of this. When you step out of your door tomorrow morning, you’re a magnet out there in the world. As I read over those sentences several times, absorbing the magnitude of that statement, I took a piece of paper out and started to write down some of the major people that had showed up in my life through the decades, wrote them down over on the left hand side of the page. And then on the right hand side next to each one, I left some space underneath each person, and I wrote down what state of mind I was in, what were the things that I was most interested in at that time, what were my passions and desires? Where was my heart? Where was my thinking? Just what was my state when those people showed up? And then I listed some of the characteristics of those people and who they were in my life at that time, positively or negatively. And when I looked at who they were and where I was, there was an amazing similarity. So I would just suggest you try it on, everything that’s in your life right now, everything you have or don’t have, all the people, the places, the things are all there from your resonating magnet out there in the world.

Now, let me tell you about Darren Weissman, that’s spelt W-E-I-S-S-M-A-N, Darren Weissman, he’s out of Chicago and he’s one of the Hay House authors and does a radio show on Hay House Radio. He is a chiropractor but has done a deep dive study into all of this and has created from his medical practice and from his observation of his patients; he has created this amazing thing called The Lifeline Technique. You’ll have to do your own research on what that is. But I want to tell you how it affected me, because it’s an amazing process where he goes into your energy field and literally can read all the way back to the defining moments in your childhood and even beyond if it warrants. And so one thing that that opened up to me as I kept listening to his material and I would listen to him interact with callers on the phone and how they would respond when he would get back into those years that I’ve been talking about. And one thing that I had to destroy was my rule about how far back this programming could take me, because I think I had really built a rule that I guess life begins when you’re a teenager or something, I don’t know. But I didn’t think those early years were that important. But in listening to Dr. Weissman go through this lifeline technique procedure with people on the phone, he would always get back to something that happened early on. And in some cases he would even go back to the womb or something that was going on before the womb.

And he would start to talk about situations going on in the mother’s life or something going on in the home when that child was in the womb. And like I said, for me, it just became destroying another rule, because somehow I had a rule that that didn’t matter. But in the lifeline technique, Dr. Weissman would tell people in let’s say at the age of seven, “You were in an environment of fear.” And when he would say that, you’d hear people gasp on the other end of the phone or they’d start laughing if it kind of triggered them that way. And in some cases they’d start crying because it would just hit them that, oh my gosh, that’s … and you know, when you get to the root of it, when you get to the bottom of all of this, it is so liberating and so freeing. And it’s like the lights go on at that point. But I think we often build such a veil over those early experiences that we literally just almost black them out. Now, this is such a surface skim of what he does in this process, it almost doesn’t do it justice. But I want you to get the sense.

Let’s use my example, if he were doing this lifeline technique on me, he would be able to literally go back and identify through his process, he would be able to get to 22 months, he’s able to count it down. And he would say, “At the age of 22 months you were in a situation of abandonment and fear.” And he would be able to see what that caused in my life. And then he would ask, “At the age of 22 months, if you knew everything you knew today (is the context) would you choose fear and abandonment as the defining characteristics of your life? Would you choose that consciously? In other words, would you say, I’m going to go out and live the rest of my life in fear and abandonment?” And of course, it’s almost a silly answer because of course it’s no, with about five exclamation marks behind it. And that’s the point; it’s not that we chose it. We were programmed into it because at 22 months, I didn’t have the conscious ability to analyze my life and say, “If I choose to do this, then I will likely have this certain outcome.” It just was stamped into me. And I as a little human soul began to react to my environment in the best way that I could figure out at the time. And then what Dr. Weissman would ask is, “What do you choose now? What do you choose today? Do you choose fear and abandonment today?” I would say, “No.” And then he would say, “Well, because you have a choice, what would you choose?” And I would say things like, “Confidence, security, pride, contribution.”

At that point you define who you want to be, because now you have choice.” “Yeah, but, but, but, but.” And at this point I want you to catch, because at this point, right here, you are fighting against your past. And whenever you see the words, ‘yeah, but’, show up in your internal conversation, catch that, stop right there, get your journal out and write down what that yeah, but, reaction is, yeah, but life isn’t safe, I can’t go there, I can’t do that, somebody will let me down. And your yeah, but is the pivot point that’s keeping you from what you could become and what you can today right now choose to become and your past. It’s the bridge between you and your past, yeah, but… So catch your yeah, but’s, that’s your resistance, that’s what’s keeping you in your belief system from going where you want to go. You’ve got to break those yeah, but’s down. And they’re strong, I get it, they’re strong.

And I also at this point just want to recognize again that no doubt about it in my mind, with the numbers of downloads that this website is starting to generate, that some of you have had abusive scars in your past that are beyond what I could even imagine. My heart goes out to you and I am incredibly sensitive to your pain. You should continue to seek the best help you can find. But only you can determine when it’s safe enough for you to look deep inside. And don’t go there until you’re ready. All I can tell you is that I was a tough case emotionally, my scars were very deep. And I can tell you that the resources and the process of how I changed my life, this is part of the process that I used and these were some of the most dramatic parts that really made the shift for me. And I’ve got to tell you, I am loving my life right now. So if that gives you hope that you can get there, but you have to get back to the point where you say, “I have the ability to choose and I choose…”

We are indeed going to go into part 3 and when we get to part 3 we’re going to talk about how to lay down our identity, because when we’re able to finally release what doesn’t work for us, that’s when the universe opens up. And it is a very magical playground out there.

My name is Thomas Miller. I’ll see you over on number 14.

Podcast 12 – Rules, Rules, Rules – Pt. 1

Play

Beginning from the day we’re born, and even the time we’re born, as you’ll hear, we start getting programmed to “do life”.  There are two critical time periods in our early development that greatly affect the rest of our lives.  Also, there are genetic predispositions, maternal and paternal (or whomever you were raised by) influences, sibling, society, religion, observation, interpretation, success, failure, pain and pleasure.  All these and more are the ingredients of what formulated your life, and we create rules and beliefs around all of these things.  Problem is….you only have to look at someone else’s life to realize that all the beliefs and rules we construct for ourselves, don’t necessarily hold true elsewhere!  Then….we have to be willing to take a look inside.

This podcast is Part 1 of exploring how so many of these factors influence who we are.  This is the groundwork.  In Part 2 we’ll explore how we can consciously and subconsciously modify or altogether alter this programming to take us in the direction we want our lives to go.  And if you’re a parent, this material can help you a lot as you are in the awesome and magnificent task of formulating a human soul.

This is Subconscious Mind Mastery podcast number 12.

Hi! My name is Thomas Miller. Thank you for joining us, if you can pick this up on iTunes or you if you caught us off the website at subconsciousmindmastery.com, whether it’s your first stop in or whether you are a subscriber, welcome back. We have quite a topic that we’re going to talk about. In fact why don’t we start a sequel because looking through all the notes that I have in front of me, there’s no way that we’re going to get through this in a normal 20 minute session. And I’m trying to keep these to 20 minutes because asking for five or six minutes of your time is a lot to ask, 20 is, you know, that’s even bigger. But trying to say let’s do this for 45 minutes or an hour together at the same thing, I just, I don’t know, maybe the Twitter generation has influenced me, I’m trying to settle on 20. I don’t know how that’s working for you but I don’t think we’re going to get through everything that we have to get through in near that. So this is probably number 12, number 13, and it might even roll into number 14. But we’ll get started. Now, I have to tell you I’m a little bit excited and a little bit intimidated at getting ready to do this podcast because I know where we’re going. I have quite a few pages of outline notes.

But basically I’m going to tell you how I turned my life around and the ingredients or the recipe. This is the recipe. This is the potpourri. This is the stuff that went into, if you were to say, “Wow, how do I turn my life around?” You know, if you ask the question, if you were to ask me, “How do you turn your life around? I don’t like where I am, I want to go some other direction.” And it might not be your whole life. Let’s just don’t say it, may not be as dramatic as what it was for me. It just might be, you’d like to shift a particular area of your life. A lot of people are looking to change their career path. Or you might want to live in a different geographic location. Whatever it is, I think you’re going to find something very helpful in what we’re going to talk about. At the same time as we unravel this, especially as we get to the crescendo it might get a little emotional for you, especially if there are some deep scars, so be aware of that. See there’s no way that on a podcast like this I’m looking at a microphone. I have no idea who’s beyond it and behind it. And I don’t know about you and what’s going on in your life. But I can only imagine for a podcast that’s already reached over a dozen countries, and has had a lot of downloads, that there are a lot of slices of life. And so I empathize with wherever you are.

You might be on top of your game and you’re looking to push it a little bit farther, to perform a little bit better. If that is the case, welcome, I think you’ll get something out of this. You might be in the depths of despair. And you might not know what tomorrow even holds. And if that’s the case I think you’ll find something of value as well. So mostly, thank you for listening, this is my story. This is what I did. And I trust that somewhere you’ll lock on and find something that jumps out at you, that you can take and run with for yourself, because really the answers, folks, the answers are within you. Now, it’s great to get outside resources. We need them. You need to read books and go to seminars and get counseling if that’s appropriate, and listen to podcasts, and digest material and read blogs and there’s a great support community out there. But it’s all outside of you. And what I want you to be especially careful is that you don’t listen to anything that doesn’t point you back to yourself because ultimately the answers are within. And that’s what we’re going to see. I think by the end of this series you’ll see what we’re talking about. Now listen, I was a tough case and this is the reason that I’m doing this podcast now and this blog, is to say that, “Look, if it can work for me, it can work for you.”

Now, I’ve titled this Rules, Rules, Rules because what you’re going to see as we unpack this is that through the experience of life we construct all kinds of rules around how life should be. And these are formulated from our childhood, from our earliest development. And there are some specific key things that happen early on that trigger these rules and their development. And then we live the rest of our life out in the context of these rules. For me, mine came a lot from church. If you’ve listened to some of the past podcasts, you know I came from a fundamentalist Christian family in Tulsa, Oklahoma. And we had a lot of rules. We had family rules and we had church rules. And the thing about church rules is they’re from God. So it’s man’s interpretation of God, but it’s when you’re taught that it’s from God, from a man or a person or your mother, you’re taught as though this is the way it is. And there’s no bending. Now, there’s a lot of great truth in all religions. And there’s a lot of great truth in Christianity. But there’s also a lot of manmade crap that will lead you off course and can really mess your life up. Now, that’s another subject for another time. We’ll get into that later. But you get the point, that we build a lot of rules around our lives and unraveling those rules, unthreading those rules is what really made the change for me.

I mentioned counseling a minute ago, now some of you are taking counseling sessions working with a therapist. And I did as well, spent quite a bit of time and money on therapy, particularly surrounding my first divorce which was when I was 39/40 years old, right in that timeframe. And while there were benefits and I learned different perspectives, it didn’t really help. It didn’t connect for me. And that’s what I’m saying is, I know there are a lot of people out there that have grabbed onto a lot of different resources. And there’s still something missing. And there was for me, and it was really frustrating to not be able to tie all of it together. And I’m going to tell you how I did and what ingredients went into me tying it together. And like I said, hopefully some of that will help, but counseling didn’t. Now, I’m not discounting counseling and therapy, there are some great therapists out there. I had a couple of really good ones. But there are some that will just waste your time and money.

And that’s what a doctor said to me, she said, “Look, just go to Landmark Education, it’s some of the best, cheapest counseling you’ll ever get.” And that is an awesome program. And I would encourage you, if you are in counseling and therapy and you wanted to look, if it’s not working for you and you wanted to look at something else look up Landmark Education on the internet, find a place close to you and give it a consideration. You can always just go check it out and see if it’s something that you’d like to explore. But it really did help open me up to a new dimension that I wasn’t getting from traditional therapy. I think the gap for me in counseling was that it was kind of like a Band-Aid on a wound, but the wound hadn’t healed yet, you know, it felt better, it stopped some of the bleeding. But in the end the wound was still unhealed and it was only a matter of time until it got infected again. So what I had to do was get even under that layer of skin and heal it from a deeper area. And that’s what I’m going to tell you in this podcast, because it was like turning the Titanic for me and avoiding the iceberg.

So we build all kinds of rules and constructions around our life. And they’re so deep and they’re so built in that you don’t even know when you’re exercising one of your rules. I was having dinner with one of my college roommates last night. We still keep in touch and meet regularly and we were talking about this very thing. And he was telling me how there were subtle little things that would come up that other people would have to tell him. “Now see, look, you’re doing it right there.” And he was like, “Oh my gosh, really.” So this is where a good buddy can help you along the way too, somebody that’s an accountability partner or somebody that will help you walk down this journey, because there are a lot of blind spots. I have a coach right now and my coach is absolutely amazing. And my coach will not let me get away with saying something that takes me back to one of my old patterns, catches it right there in the spot and just nails it and then I have to face it and deal with it. But these rules are programmed or built into our life from several sources. They’re learned by observation. They’re taught by others, our parents, our church, our social setting or surrounding, school teachers etc. You get the point.

Now, some of who we are just comes genetically prewired. And I didn’t really understand the full context of this until I opened up, I let a rule down, I laid a rule aside and started studying astrology, not the predictive form, I’m talking about the personality traits side of astrology. But see, growing up for me astrology was always of the devil. And that was one of my rules and it wasn’t until I finally looked at it from a standpoint, you know, there’s some really amazing consistent information that I’m seeing here. I found a guy by the name of Mark Husson, he’s one of the Hay House authors and has a radio show on Hay House Radio which is an internet website, if you haven’t been there you ought to check it out, hayhouseradio.com. And Mark Husson is one of the guys I listened to over there and Darren Weissman is the other. And I’m going to talk about Darren little bit later on. But while I was working, doing like what you’re doing right now, I would listen to some of Mark Husson’s shows and really found it interesting because he would talk mostly about how somebody’s … well, your birthday, how your birthday affects your personality and the way that you naturally tend to respond to life’s situations. And it really is an amazing study on both behavior and interaction. So it’s how you interact with other people. And when you start to learn some of this you’ll see how not only you are wired, but how other people are wired.

And guys, I’ve got to tell you, I was blind to how other people were wired. I didn’t go over to the other side of the fence and try to see life from their perspective. But when I started to study and learn this I realized that there are so many different ways that people view the same world. And so if I’m dealing with somebody who sees it from one perspective and I know where my perspective is and I know what my natural tendency is, it’s made it so much easier for me to interact with other people. I’m a Scorpio and I work with a Pisces. And Scorpios and Pisces interact well together. And so as I’ve understood the guy that I work for and how he looks at life, sure enough, when he reacts in certain ways I just run it through that filter. Yeah, there you go. I understand, I get it. And I’m able to just let stuff bounce off because that how he’s responding, it’s not how I would respond. But I get that he looks at it through a different prism. The other thing that I think is interesting about this side of astrology, not the predictive side, the predictive side gets a little bit more dicey, but the other thing is that this will show you where the energy is more highly concentrated in your life at a given time. Now, I’m a firm believer that you have ultimate choice, and that’s the power of what we’re going to get to by the end of this, is the freedom to choose. But I do believe that everything around us is concentrated and focused energy. And at certain times, energy is more concentrated and focused in certain areas than in others.

And I have no idea how people 6,000 years ago without the internet, figured all this out. But it is an amazing study. Enough about that subject, I just wanted you to get the point, it really opens you up to some really neat cool perspectives. And if you’ve never studied it before, hey, lay down your rule and give it a shot. But the point is when we’re born we have a natural perspective of how we’re going to interact with life itself, before we’ve even taken our third breath, that’s just born into us. That’s how we would naturally respond to something, if we had no influence and no training and no external input, if we were just literally in a perfect vacuum from the day we were born and then we started somewhere out there to respond to life, this is the way that we would naturally do it without any training, without any rules, no interpretations, just the way we would respond naturally. But that’s not the way it works out is it? Because then we start to live life and we have those critical early formative years. Now, if you’re really trying to understand why you are the way you are and why life is the way that it is for you, you have to go back and revisit those first five or six years of your life. And this is what I say, I realize that at this moment we’re crossing into some dangerous territory because for some of you those first five or six years were full of emotional and even physical pain. And if that’s the case then I want you to listen to me a little bit more distantly, alright, keep it out there as just a resource.

Don’t go too far into this emotion right now, listen through this whole thing. And I want you to get the context of this and then you can go back and fit it into how it fits your situation. I didn’t have physical abuse, I had quite a bit of mental and verbal impacts on my life, but I was never physically abused. And I get that if you have been it is one of the scars of life that is the most, I so respect where you are because it is huge and it carries all the way into your adulthood. There is a way to deal with it, I firmly believe that, but I totally get that if somebody says to you, “Go back and look at the first five or six years of your life”, you might have icicles going down your back right now. But it’s ultimately something that you have to address if you’re going to permanently change. I’m talking about getting out of the spin cycle. Let’s don’t keep going around and around and around and not getting anywhere in our life, this is about finally putting this to rest. And yes, there is some discomfort with it. I spent a year journaling about this period of my life and cried buckets of tears. So I’m not saying that this is a painless escape. It’s gnarly, it hurts. It was difficult for me to get to the point of revisiting this. But I’m telling you, in order to heal it, I’m talking about not putting another fresh Band-Aid on a still sore wound, I’m talking about let’s go in and heal the wound.

Really there are two critical age brackets that you have to take a look at, birth up to five/six/seven and then another really critical timeframe is the age between about 10 and 15. For a brief little period there I did a little bit of work a Christian ministry inside prisons. And one of the chaplains of this ministry said that a common thing that he saw among prisoners was that most men he was dealing with, guys that had been incarcerated had some significant major negative thing happen in their lives between the ages of, he said, 10 and 14/15. So I get, again that might bring a flashback for you that’s not comfortable. But let’s go into it and let’s see how we’re going to deal with it because there is a way out. And this thing doesn’t have to hold you for the rest of your life. From those early experiences, we all begin to formulate how life should be. Sometimes it’s just a coping mechanism. It’s survival. Sometimes we connect the dots. It’s an if then correlation, if this happens then I respond like this, I get this kind of result. And you see that pattern a couple of times and you build a rule or a belief around that. Some of it’s taught by our parents or other influences that we’ve already talked about.

So up until this point in my journey, I’d had a church background, had been to counseling, had been through everything that I could get my hands on from Tony Robins, had done almost a year’s worth of journaling, unpacking those early years of my life and it still wasn’t clear. And I kept asking the universe, I kept praying, I kept, show me, show me where the depth of, show me where the bottom of this is. Show me the beginning. Show me how I got completely here. Now, one of the things that kept pointing back was it was the relationship with my mother, yes, I would be one of those that they say has mother issues. In all of my journaling things kept pointing back to mom. Well, it just so happened that on Mother’s Day (how ironic) I was sitting in a Unity church Sunday morning service here in Dallas and they had a meditation from 10 until 11. It was a really cool thing. If you’ve never been to a Unity church, it’s not like your Baptist church or your Methodist church or your Catholic church, it’s quite a bit different. But they had a meditation. It was a bowl meditation where they play the bowls, the harmonic sounds from bowls. And did that for an hour and then went into their version of a worship service. And it was in that service on Mother’s Day, after that meditation that I literally had the veil pulled back and could look in and see my mother’s life from her perspective. And what I saw was a woman who longed to be loved. She never could meet her father’s expectations. She never was good enough.

She didn’t meet my dad until later in life and even in the post-world war 2 generation, they married quite late. Mom was about 30/31 when they got married. So in a generation where all of her friends were 10 years, celebrating their 10 year anniversary, my mom was just getting married. And I came along 12 months later. Now, there’s something else about my mom, she was off the charts extreme, okay, like if normal was a 10, it really exaggerated, was a 12. My mother was a 200. She did everything to excess. No, not excessive, off the charts excessive. And you can imagine, my dad was passive, I mean that’s the only way that could work, right, great man, tons of respect in his lifetime but he was passive in that relationship and he was passive as a father. So what I saw in church that day was this beautiful soul of this young woman in Tulsa, Oklahoma, who had a big hole in her heart and just wanted to be loved more than anything else in the world. And she wanted to give love. And if you don’t think it moved me to tears, I probably tried to contain it in the service, but once I got out in the car I just, you know, let it go.

Well, for her, when I came along in her 200 times excessive mode, you can imagine that I was a little bit over-nurtured. I was paid too much attention. And all of this started to get real clear to me too. I could see myself as a little baby, I mean it’s really weird. And I don’t want you to go off thinking this is, doo, doo, doo stuff. I’m telling you, from that experience on that Sunday morning, just the vision of this in my mind became so clear of this over-focus of attention and love and I appreciated it, but it was too much, it was over, it was excessive. And then 22 months later in the context of having 22 months, almost two full years of this hyper attention, one day mom goes away and my brother comes home. What the hell is this I ask, figuratively of course? But you get the point, because all of a sudden overnight all of this love and attention and affection that was all mine, was gone, or at least divided. But I had been so programmed that I needed that. What that did is it fired off two things right at that point. It fired off abandonment, over-dependency, particularly on women, and a great resentment toward my brother. And I was 22 months old and that ladies and gentlemen is how I began to live the rest of my life. Alright, let’s stop here. In our next podcast we are going to talk about how you can look back into the very essence of those early years, how you’ll see that you really at that point didn’t make a cognitive choice. I’m not going to say you didn’t have a choice, you didn’t make a choice. And we’re going to talk about how you can finally heal those wounds.

My name is Thomas Miller. Thank you very much for joining me through a difficult topic today. We’ll pick it up on the next one, podcast number 13.

Something I’ve really been in touch with this past week is where we all are on our journey. Some people have made a lot of progress in their life and they’re looking for new ways and new ways to hear something or new tools and technologies to even reach higher ground. But a lot of people are really in the dumps. I mean this Facebook group through a coaching program that I’m doing and man, there’s one guy in there that just my heart goes out to him because I know that he is where I was not just too long ago. And you really want to reach out to people like that. And my heart really goes out to this guy. So no matter where you are in your journey I hope that you will find something here that you can connect to and that will help encourage you and help uplift you and give you something to lock onto or something to think about that you can take your life to a higher level, that’s what we’re here for. So I thought to that end that we might talk for just a couple of minutes together about some significant milestones in my life especially over the last five years. You know I had a really tough go at it and dug myself into a pretty deep hole. And sometimes I wake up in the morning and I think, Thomas, what in the world are you doing? You know, putting my life out here in this way in such a vulnerable form or fashion, and this is really hanging it out there. And I guess probably naturally I’d like to keep my cards to my chest a little bit.

But I figure if it happened to me and I was able to turn my life around from what was really a mess, then maybe there would be something inside my story that would encourage you, because really once I finally grasped some of this material and changed the way that I was thinking, my life really took dramatic changes in an upward direction. And I know that’s why you’re here too. We all want the same thing. As far as the timeline goes, I really hit bottom in the second half of 2007. I went through my second divorce and it happened to be that I was married to a physician and I was running the business. I was running the practice and we have several other things that we were doing. And so the divorce caused me a job crisis at the same time. I have two kids, so I have a son that’s halfway through college and a daughter that’s just graduating from high school this spring as we’re doing this in April of 2013. And one divorce is bad enough on kids, but two really, really has an impact. And so it affected my kids. I didn’t respond to the second divorce very well and so I started doing some pretty unhealthy things and so it affected my health as well. I knew that my life was headed in a really bad direction.

Now, there’s a concept that I’m working on and it’s going to be the topic of this next podcast. And I think if there’s one thing that sticks in my mind of the shift point for me it comes to this whole concept of, let’s call it identity, ego, self, you put your own context around that. But I’m working on some next podcasts where we’re going to be talking about how to remove your ego and how to step back away from such emotional internal involvement in outcomes, because see that’s the way my life was wrapped up, was around getting this desired outcome, call it controlling, call it manipulative, call it proud, but it was all across my life. Everything was involved in stroking and serving and fulfilling and my ego was just … my identity was so a part of every process. And as I look back over this path there’s one common theme and that is when I released the identity, when I stepped away from the ego, when I got outside myself, that’s when changes really started to happen. Now, I’ve told you in previous podcasts, if you’ve been poking around on the website you know that I really was living a life and acting in a way that just didn’t work.

My whole background and my whole upbringing centered around fundamentalist Christianity, a very rules based religion. It was based on a lot of self-righteousness, but also had tons and tons of rules and beliefs that had to be because it was all based on somebody’s interpretation of the Bible, which of course was God’s word. So I was boxed into this world of not being able to wiggle outside of these rules that were confining me, taught to me by these authorities that were putting my life by God, who I dared not question nor think that anything that I was being taught was anything but the word of God. And oh, by the way, if you step outside of this you’re going to go roast in hell for eternity. So I built my whole life around what I thought was the way to not become an internal marshmallow and I was going to do everything I could to make sure that you didn’t become an internal marshmallow too. So you know the saying, how’s that working for you? Well it didn’t work out so well, for myself it was an internal conflict, I was at war because I knew there was something not right. I knew there was some dot not being connected, but I didn’t dare step into the inquiry of what it was. As far as my external relationships, the people in my life, oh my God, I’ve, you know, gone back for the last five years cleaning up messes. But then it all hit me when this second person who I was married to, decided that she couldn’t take it either.

And that was my bottom, that was the point that finally instead of looking out and externally at everything else being part of the problem, I sat down in mid-2008 about six or eight months after my divorce and I started to look at me because my initial reaction was, well God has just given up on me, God doesn’t care about me anymore. God had nothing to do with it. I had created this all myself. God was not to blame in any way or sort. But it took a lot for me to get to the point where I could look at that.

The thing that gave me a different perspective was a program that a doctor friend of mine invited me to in mid-2008 called Landmark Education. Landmark comes from a program that was started in the late 60s, early 70s that was called EST, it was popular in California, but now it’s permeated around the country and literally around the world as Landmark Education. And Landmark’s program really for the first time got me to look outside all of that old structure that I grew up with that wasn’t working. So the important thing about that piece of the journey is that if life isn’t working for you, there probably is the answer just over the next horizon, whatever it is for you that it takes to get you to look at that next level or look at a different perspective. I would highly encourage anyone to take a look at Landmark who was looking for this type of material, to look at a different way of seeing life. They have a program that takes about six months to complete four different phases of the program, four different classes, but it really is a great program, it meant a lot to me.

Now, the other thing I did simultaneous to that and I was just in a position in life to be able to do this, this is not for everybody, but my lease had run out and I was feeling pretty itchy and wild and didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do and so I bought an RV and I decided that I would live in it for one year and just see how it was. Well, I got a taste of the RV lifestyle and that was great and I learned a lot about RVs, that was another beneficial thing, but the most incredible part about it was being away from everything that I had grown accustomed to. So all the old memories and all the old visuals and all the old people, I was able to separate from all of that emotion. And that was a great time of that one year in the RV and during that time I would spend a lot of the evenings sitting outside, enjoying a glass of wine, listening to the sounds of nature which were just magnificent, and thinking about my life and journaling, I wrote and wrote and wrote, and the more I dug inside, the more started to come out. And it was during that time that I also learned this great concept, it was from an article I found on the internet that some lady in Oklahoma had written about doing the opposite. I put that in one of my previous podcasts, it was a Seinfeld episode where George’s life hadn’t ever turned out the way he wanted it and so Jerry’s advice was, “Well why don’t you just do the opposite?” And it was a really funny scene, you can search it up, it’s on YouTube. I’ve also got a link to it down on one of my other posts. But it’s really funny because George does the opposite and things really start to change for him.

So I looked around at a lot of different areas of my life and I thought, you know, if I were able to achieve at least the opposite of this, it would be really cool. Hey, instead of broke, I could be rich. Instead of having no relationships I can have great relationships. Instead of being frustrated in my job and my career I could really enjoy my job and career. So I started lining up all the behaviors that I had done to get to where I was and I just did a 180 on all of them. I had a left side column and a right side column. The left side column of the paper would be what I did to get to where I was. The right column would be to go where I wanted to go. And every one of those things had basically an opposite action step on the other side of the right side of the paper. And finally things started to turn around. But the common denominator that I saw through all of these changes is when I released my identity, when I threw it away, that’s when the changed started to happen.

I took an audio book recording class in Los Angeles back in 2012 with a couple of guys that are on top of that industry, Pat Fraily and Scott Brick. And we were in this recording studio in Los Angeles, in Hollywood, and they were coaching us on how to read audio books. And it’s a huge industry and I narrate audio books from time to time. And one of the coaching points that Scott Brick, one of the great audio book narrators gave me was, “Throw it away, just throw it away. Act like you’re not…” He said, “You’re putting too much of yourself into it, just throw it away, let it be.” It’s one of the great sayings that I love from Wayne Dyer, and he quotes John Lennon, “Let it be, just let it be.” And that was so foreign to what I had grown up with. Well in the fall of 2009 a person that I was working with cut me in very unexpectedly on a real estate deal that we were doing. And he said, “If you do bump, bump, bump, this, this and this, then I’ll give you $8500.” Would be the extra compensation for what we were working through. Well I pulled off my part of the deal and he did too. I took a photocopy of that check and I have it hanging on my success wall. It’s a great reminder that miracles can happen. And do you know what happened? Over the next, about 12 months I guess, another $40,000 just showed up. You all know, I’m not kidding 40, you see there’s the Texas coming out, $40,000 just showed up totally unexpected. But I had started to put myself in a position that money would manifest for me. I didn’t do anything for those, they just showed up.

And that’s what I’m saying, that if you just throw it away, if you set your intentions, you visualize what was going to happen. I had passwords on all of the websites and computers and everything where I logged into a password was something to do with manifesting money, I’m not kidding. I would write it up on the mirror of the bathroom, I’ve told you that. But then you just kind of forget about it, and that’s when it starts to happen. Well, the next big event was closing out of the RV, the year was starting to wind down, it was now the fall of 2009, and I had a real internal prompting. I was really getting an internal voice that said it’s time to move back to Dallas. So I created in my mind the type of place where I wanted to live. I wanted to get an apartment and I had a particular geography of where I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be halfway between where my kids went to school and where they lived with their mom. I wanted to be right in between there so that I could have equal access to be able to spend time with them. And that worked for me from where I was working as well. So this for me was kind of the first test if you will, to put this whole process to use in my life, kind of for the first time, let’s try this out. So I visualized what I wanted and I started looking. And guess what, I found nothing. Every place was just not what I had in mind at all. But I kept looking. I knew the only thing I could do was to keep looking. It had to be out there. I just hadn’t found it yet. So I kept searching, kept searching.

And finally one day, and here’s the throwaway again, it was on a Saturday in the fall in football season, my son was finishing his high school football career. And they were in these little playoff games that they were having. And in between games I found on Craigslist this subleased apartment. And the address caught my attention because it was halfway in between the two locations that I visualized. When I went in and took a look at the apartment, it was exactly; I mean exactly, I can’t tell you how close it was in reality to what I had envisioned in my mind. Well, I leased the apartment and ended up staying there for 18 months and it worked out great.

The next thing that I had to do was to get out of that RV. Well, that became a miracle in and of itself. I had a diesel pickup truck to pull the fifth wheel RV with. I have to tell you, I hated that pickup truck. And I had actually eliminated the word hate from my vocabulary, but I … folks, I hated that pickup truck. And no idea what I was going to do to get out of it or get rid of it, well that truck had a problem, it had a mechanical error that would cause a certain thing to happen. And it had been in the shop five consecutive months for this same problem. And the fifth time that I was in the dealership they pulled me off to the side and they said, “Chrysler has agreed to replace your truck under the [0:15:47.8] law, go out in the parking lot and start looking around because you can pick anything that you want, we’re going to trade you out of that truck.” Well, I picked a Jeep Rubicon Wrangler. And it is a total love affair to this day, I love my Jeep. And every time I get in my jeep and I start the ignition in it I think of miracles.

Well, the next thing was selling the RV. Now, I’m not one of these … you know, you watch these shows that are on, like the history channel or A&E these days, these selling shows, you know, like porn stars and what’s the other one, about the storage wars, you know, those shows where it’s all about bartering and buying and selling, and I have no earthly talent in that area. I guess I need to manifest that I do because I’ve never really had that knack. Well, I had an RV on my hands that I had to get rid of. Basically the guy that had been maintaining it for me, wanted to sell it for a commission and I was happy to pay him for that. He had some contacts and on December 23rd, two days before Christmas of 2010, I delivered the RV to a game warden who had bought it through my friend. So the game warden benefitted because he needed it immediately. My friend benefitted because he got some extra cash and I got rid of the RV two days before Christmas.

So things were going pretty good. I had gotten rid of the RV, got a new miracle Jeep vehicle that I loved, had a brand new apartment. So I thought I would do a vision board and see how far we could stretch it. So right there during the holidays in 2010, I did a vision board and there were several items on it. But one of the things that was on the vision board was a microphone. My college degree and my early career was in broadcasting, and I’ve always loved radio. And there’s just something about the magic of radio that I just have always enjoyed. And I thought I would love to be back on the radio. So I put a microphone, just a picture of a microphone up on the board. Do you know that within six months I was co-host and producer of a health talk live radio show on KRLD, one of the prominent news stations in the Dallas Fort Worth market? That show lasted for a year, KRLD liked what they saw and they asked me to do another one for them, another place where I set my intentions and then just kind of let it be, was my relationship with my kids. I was learning now not to force things, not to demand things. So I let my relationship with my kids just grow and evolve. Oh, I set my intentions, I knew what I wanted and I set them very clearly. But that was for myself, I let the kids be. Oh, I was there, I was halfway between their home and their school. And I was involved in the various things that they wanted me involved in. But as I didn’t put pressure on it and just let it relax, I’ve got to tell you, that my relationship with my kids today is better than it’s ever, ever been.

I’ve created a few other things that haven’t manifest yet, but it were just getting to the right time, see we need that gestation period. And it’s just the right time. And there are some incredible things that are going to start taking place in the life of me as dad and the kids. I can already see it coming.   And then in podcast number 7, I told you about the situation in Christmas 2011 when just this amazing healing with my mom, my brother, my kids, the whole magical experiences detailed in that podcast of what took place at Christmas time in 2011. And now I have a wonderful rapport with my brother. And he and his wife are travelling around in an RV. And right now as I’m recording this, I think they are down on the coast of Texas enjoying an early spring down there, so what about the journey now, now that we’ve met here on this podcast? Well I have a deep desire to teach what I can and use this story as a platform, and some of the things that I’ve learned and my voice to help anyone who is interested in growing in their life. I have certain goals, specific goals that I want to achieve. I have a specific place I want to live. I’m mapping out what I want the rest of my life to count for and what I want to do with it. I have a great coach who is helping me unravel some of the deep gnarly knots that are still programmed down in there. And that’s really how this podcast has come about, is just an extension and a continuation of that process.

So you’re going to get to watch and we’ll walk through this journey together because I’ll keep you informed on how things are unfolding. So I hope there’s something in here that has encouraged you. I hope that you can see that if you even feel like you’re in the depth of the pit right now, that if you will commit and take the steps to do what you need to do to learn a better way, that it will unfold for you.

Finally, and I’ll just mention this briefly; because there are so many great resources out there that can help you along the way. And I’ve pulled out several of the key things that helped me, Landmark Education is one, I’ve mentioned that. And on the website, subconsciousmindmastery.com, over on the right hand side I’ve just put links to the various things, the tools if you will, that really helped me. One is an audio program called The Science of Getting Rich. This is a program by Bob Procter, Jack Canfield and Michael Beckwith. They explore a book that was written almost 100 years ago by Wallace Waddles, called The Science of Getting Rich. And I’ll tell you, I bought that, it was more expensive, it’s actually cheaper now than it was back then, and I had to so scrape to get the money to buy that program, but it was the best money I’ve ever spent on myself. I did that program at about the same time I was going through the Landmark Program, and both of them combined, it was like one voice explaining it this way, another voice explaining it that way, and the two of them resonated for me. And it was such a dual impact at exactly the same time. And it’s not just about money. Yes, that’s the topic of the book and that’s the platform that they base it on. But it’s about any area of life. You can substitute any other word in there and get exactly the same message.

Another thing that really helped me were Kelly Howell’s audio meditations. And I have a link for her website there, brainsync.com. In unpacking everything I realized that so much of what I had come to believe and who I had come to be was programmed into me audibly, it was from so many things that my mother had said and all the sermons that I had listened to. And all of that had me convinced and believing a certain way about life. The other thing that really affected me was that I grew up in a critical environment, so I didn’t have a high self-esteem. I didn’t think I was of much value. And I could see where that had all come from audible programming. So I thought if I could hear another conversation in my ears over and over and over, that I could reprogram that thinking as well. And Kelly Howell’s work in that is just fantastic. And I’ll just direct you to her website to explore on your own. But that was a valuable resource. Her companion product is Think Right Now. And I have a link to that as well. These are more behavioral modification oriented, they’re about 20-30 minutes in length, but they’re set to 60 beat per minute music. And that’s baroque type classical music. And that’s supposed to put your brain in the most adaptive state to hear a new message. And I think there’s tremendous value there as well.

And then finally I created an Amazon store because there are just too many books, there are too many books and other products there that are just fantastic. This is the base library. I mean these are the best of the best. And so I’ve tried to just pull those aside and put them in one place, that if you wanted to click over there. I’ve tried to put at least the paperback and the Kindle version of the books in there. But these are the things that have really touched my life. You have to study this material and you have to learn a new way of doing and a new way of being. And these are great tools that all impacted me individually and I just wanted to pull them aside and put them in a place where you could conveniently look at them for yourself.

I really appreciate you listening today. We have much more exciting material ahead. I’m Thomas Miller.

If you go back to one of my early video posts from Bob Proctor, he offers a fantastic explanation of how our subconscious mind gets programmed early on.  So much of who we are as adults is the result of those early years.

I want to introduce you to the very first person to put a comment on this website.  Joan Harrison.  Her website is ThinkGrowLive.com, and she had a very challenging childhood – to say the least.  Her story is compelling because she studied most everything in the self help arena, and while she found a lot of great material, there was still something missing.  She’s going to tell you what that one “click” was for her that made the difference and ultimately changed her whole perspective, which then changed her whole life.

This is Subconscious Mind Mastery podcast number 7– Listening to your Subconscious Mind.

Ok, this is going to be a great podcast. And the reason that I’m yawning is that we’re going to talk about some times during the day when you are more in tune or more likely to be in tune with your subconscious mind. And I think definitely one of those times any one would agree is in the morning when you’re just waking up, when your conscious mind is just starting to flicker, that’s a perfect time to learn how to listen to your subconscious mind. It’s really cool because lately I’ve been able to so dialogue between my conscious and unconscious minds in those first few waking hours that I’m able to know exactly where my subconscious mind stands on a number of different issues. It’s really cool when you get to this point. And we’re going to tell you how to do it in this podcast.

So go back and remember our bridge keeper analogy is a great one to keep in mind for this lesson. Between your conscious mind, your conscious self you and where you would like to go, any goal or outcome you’d like to achieve, there is a bridge, think of a bridge between where you are and where you’d like to go. And on the bridge is a little bridge keeper, and that bridge keeper has an amazing ability to store every memory, every emotion, every occurrence, every word that’s ever been spoken, that’s your subconscious mind. And that bridge keeper has one goal in mind, one purpose for being on the bridge, and that is to keep you safe in your life. But the bridge keeper only has the frame of reference of everything that’s ever happened to you in the past. And so the bridge keeper will use all of that every time you want to get from here to there to keep you in what he thinks or she thinks is the safe zone, so this whole idea of reprogramming your subconscious mind is really it basically boils down to this, we are reprogramming or we are dialoguing with the bridge keeper in order to move ourselves in the direction that we want to go.

And the bridge keeper has another amazing ability, the bridge keeper, not our conscious mind, but our subconscious bridge keeper has the ability to go out into the universe, into that formless substance like Wallace Waddles called it and navigate the path ahead of us, the bridge keeper has a way of bringing all the resources together that we might need in order to accomplish our goal, but only – only if the bridge keeper is completely convinced and on board that that’s the best thing for us, if not the bridge keeper will walk down and keep us safe and that’s where we end up in stalemate. We have a conscious desire to do something but we can’t seem to break through and just, it’s like a wall. Well, that’s because our subconscious mind and our conscious mind are in conflict. In the podcast text on www.subconsciousmindmastery.com I’ll have a link to Dr. Sean Sullivan’s Mind Mastery programs. These are fantastic and this is where the bridge keeper concept comes from. Dr. Sullivan has done an amazing job of this neuroplasticity concept that is basically what we’re talking about here. If you’d like to take one of his courses you can link right from there, it’s not an affiliate site yet, I’m in dialogue with him to set that up, hopefully we’ll get that in place before too long, but I just believe in his program, it really made a huge difference in my life, and that’s part of what this website is about, it’s things that it … the ingredients that it took to change my life. I want to pass on to you and see if they’ll help you as well.

So one of the best times during the day to keep in touch with that bridge keeper is in the morning, now sometimes you’ll … as you know, sometimes you’ll just be driving down the road and you’ll get an intuition or you’ll get that sense, you’ll get that urge from inside, that’s the bridge keeper and that’s what we’re talking about, that’s your subconscious mind bubbling up and it happens more frequently than you know, the problem is our conscious minds are just so active and engaged during the day that we don’t slow down enough to listen to when our subconscious mind tries to speak through. So waking up in the morning, going to sleep in the evening, sometimes for some people that’s those restless waking hours in the middle of the morning, three o’clock/four o’clock in the morning when they’re just lying there in bed. But all of a sudden you’re not sleepy, you’re not going to go to sleep, but you’re just so wound down that you might be able to listen to your subconscious mind. There are some activities also that will help us bring us into this state, meditation is one of those times we’re quieting our conscious mind and we’re focusing on something like our breath. And meditation is a time when we can connect with our subconscious mind, it’s a great time. In fact I’m going to tell you at the end of this podcast another resource that made a huge difference in my life were some meditation audio tapes, not tapes, they were MP3 downloads that I listened to off my phone or iPod. But I will tell you about that at the end of this podcast.

Another activity that will help bring you in touch with your subconscious mind, this is well known, is yoga. Yoga is something that again just shifted my life and I would encourage you, if you’ve never taken a yoga class, go do a beginner intro class to yoga, don’t just go jump into a class. I did that the first time and it just didn’t work out so well, go take a beginners series. And you’ll learn the various moves and then to start to work your way into a yoga routine. But I would highly, highly recommend that, it’s not only great for your body, it’s fantastic for your mind and especially for your soul. I have a couple of other times when the subconscious can connect with the conscious and one of them is riding my bicycle. I’ve gotten into road bike riding and I’ve kind of gotten up to where I can spend several hours on the bike at a time now. And oh, that’s just a great time when you get out there, you’re exercising, you’re in this low moderate range of cardio, your heart beats about 125/130 beats a minute, the wind’s blowing in your face and that’s a great time for me to just let the conscious mind go. And a lot of times I’m on my bike and I’m just in the zone, I’m not thinking about anything and then I can connect and the subconscious mind will start to have a voice.

The final way for me is in the shower and I’ve got a funny story that we’ll talk about at the end of this because I want to tell you something. It was like a miracle, a major massive miracle happened in my life and it all started from taking a shower. So let’s go back to what I’m going to use as the catalyst of this, the waking hours. Now, that might not be for you, you might be somebody who wakes up in the morning and you bolt out of bed and your conscious mind is just running at a thousand miles an hour and every morning you wake up and you can’t wait to get out of bed. That might be the case and if it is then this is not going to be the time for you, but there will be a time, it might be for you the going to sleep process is something that takes 45 minutes and you can just lie down and that’s your most restful time, so whenever it is you just apply it to yourself. The concept is there. But our conscious minds are always on during our waking hours. And of course that’s what drives your thoughts, right, it’s hot, it’s cold, I need to pay that bill, lunch needs to be rescheduled, what are we doing this weekend? That’s your conscious mind driving your life, all the events and the circumstances of everything that is daily.

But our subconscious mind, that’s the spirit side, that’s the soul side, that’s the … remember the great law, energy is, God is, that’s the side of us connecting with the universal energy, the universal God to move us toward our goals. And the subconscious mind is literally energy in motion. It’s moving you in the direction that you’ve programmed it. And remember, the bridge keeper, that’s from all the events, circumstances, emotions, situations, memories, data, everything that’s come into your brain, every sensory perception is stored in your subconscious mind. Now remember, we talked about the laws of the universe, the seven sub laws of the great law and one of those sub laws was the law of perpetual transmutation, something is always moving into form. Your subconscious mind is always moving you in a particular direction, in order to go where you want to go you have to align your conscious mind and your subconscious mind, or many of us, we don’t even know that there’s a gap between the two and that might be the starting process for you, is to figure out what your subconscious mind is saying and even to know where your conscious mind wants to go. I went through such a long period of time where I didn’t even have clear direction.

So you have to at least get a conscious clarity of where you want to go. And look, you don’t have to … if starting this process, if for you you’re where I was about four or five years ago and just starting this process and starting to learn this material, start with a small area of your life, don’t try to just start with the big areas, start with something small, something manageable that you can just get your arms around and start to flex and exercise and use these muscles, eventually your subconscious mind will tell you when it’s out of phase with your conscious mind. This will come in the form of doubts and fears or anxiety or just a complete push/pull inside yourself, like a war. Yes, I am. No, you’re not. Yes, I am. No, you’re not. And that’s your subconscious mind telling you there’s a stack of evidence that it has not been convinced that what your conscious mind is trying to say has been pressed upon the subconscious to the point where it is reprogrammed and in alignment with you. So we’re watching for those times when that dialogue starts to show up. Be aware of those times. And I would also encourage you to keep some kind of a record keeping device near that spot. If it’s by your bedside, I keep a journal there, I keep a paper journal. Now, I love to keep electronic notes and some time I’ll talk about my electronic note keeping system. But I keep a paper journal by my bedside and that’s a place where, when that little voice starts to poke through and I need to capture something, I have it right there.

Now, I’m pretty crazy about really wanting to transform my life. And I’ve really learned the power of this. And the power of pressing on your subconscious mind through all the sensory perceptions that we can feed it with, so audibly I like to listen to things that will help reprogram my subconscious mind, visually to look at words, pictures, images, etc. And so one of the things I will do is write on my bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. If there’s some concept that I want to focus on for the day or for the week I’ll write it up on my bathroom mirror. So capturing things in the shower has been a little bit of a problem. But you know what I’ve started to do, and this is crazy, this is nuts, but I will tell you, I am so serious about implementing this in my own life that I’ll just like, will go to no end, that I keep a dry erase marker now in the shower and if I get something I’ll try to just jot a note down because so many … I’ll write it on the wall is what I’m saying, is I’ll write it up on the tile of the bathroom and then just quickly transfer that into the journal. But a lot of times these thoughts will come and go so fast that if you don’t capture it right in the moment, it’ll take wing, and you will not get back to it for a long while. So as you are capturing your subconscious messages, your subconscious mind, your intuition, these challenges and conflicts and thoughts of knowing where your subconscious mind is, then you can go back with your conscious mind and find the discrepancy, where are we out of sync or out of alignment here.

The subconscious mind is not convinced yet of something. So then you can acknowledge the subconscious mind’s fears. Remember, it’s like the bridge keeper and the bridge keeper only wants to keep you safe. And so you acknowledge to the subconscious mind, thank you for looking out for my best interest, for our best interest, thank you for protecting us. But let me tell you some new data that maybe you haven’t taken into consideration… and then you start to reprogram. Let me show you some visual images that… And over time you begin to press new data and new information and new resources and new images, new emotions on the subconscious mind and then you’ll finally know when it clicks in and it’s in alignment and then the next part of the process is to release, then you can let go. And then you can let the subconscious mind just do its thing. Touch base with it every now and then. Hey, are we still okay on this? Yeah, still okay. And then let it go out into the universe and do its work.

Here are a couple of chapters from my own life that will illustrate this and then I’ll give you some resources that will really help you get into the state of where you can connect with your subconscious mind. Remember, I told you that I basically kind of had to learn how to walk again at age 47, and had to almost throw out everything that I had been taught in the past and recreate a new reality of how the universe worked, because the way that I had been taught and trained from my upbringing just wasn’t working for me, I just didn’t have the right perspective on the way that the universe worked. I wasn’t applying the laws. And I was living in out of phase with them and it was just causing a lot of havoc and chaos in my life. And so I started to study this material. I was recently divorced from a wife who was also basically my business partner and so every area of my life was uncertain, financially, directionally, I was like lost at, you know, here I was supposed to be at this crescendo point of my life where you enjoy the fruits of the last several decades, I was looking at just a lot of broken pieces out in the driveway trying to figure out, what am I going to put back together here. And my subconscious mind was screaming to me, you are in danger. And it was trying to tell me that everything was messed up and that just like life was uncertain and there was danger round there and that I had really messed up and that the future was just not looking good. And my subconscious mind was in absolute terror, afraid.

For about a year or more, every morning I would wake up and you talk about waking up and knowing where your subconscious mind was, I would wake up lights on with just a sheer terror and anxiety going through every fiber of my being. My subconscious was saying things like, I’m all alone here, something’s wrong, I’m scared, I’m concerned, I’m anxious, you’re in danger. And that would last through the entire day. And this was during that phase, that year basically that I was living in the RV. So I was starting to get in touch with myself. I was doing all this journaling. I was digging everything up and as I was digging it up and digging it out my subconscious mind was just getting more and more nervous about where we were headed here. But finally as I began to learn this material and started to apply it and the change of direction started to occur, that I did have a future. And I had, for example, an 8500 dollar check show up from a real estate deal that I was cut into totally unexpected. I mean that was huge for me to see something like that happen, that finally my subconscious mind started to realize that consciously I was headed in a good direction and that things did have a bright future.

And over a period of months that anxiety started to subside and finally it went away and it just was gone. And there wasn’t anything I really did to get rid of it except stayed with exactly what I’m talking about in these podcasts and in these blog articles, and just stayed with this process and it started to reprogram my subconscious mind. And then it realized, hey, you actually have some power here and then the shift came into what could we do to take this out to beyond your own walls.

And the second story that I’d like to share with you is a parlay of that because now the subconscious mind is working in my favor. Go back to the fall of 2011, now over the last several years, I’ve never been a big fan of the holiday season, that was when my second divorce happened, was all through the holidays. And it just kind of put a sour taste in my mouth that I hadn’t really gotten over. So now, you know, one of the ways that I kind of would deal with it is to run away. And so I like to get away for the holidays, kind of, you know, get out of town and not just kind of have to deal with it. And that was what I was thinking maybe for the fall of 2011. It was early, it was mid-December and I was thinking about what to do for the upcoming holiday season, didn’t really have any plans. And I was thinking about travelling to a couple of cities that I thought maybe I’d like to visit. I have some family down in Florida and I thought well maybe I could go down there. Well I was taking a shower one morning and this was on my mind and I was just running the question through, what should I do for the holidays. And I thought about these cities and I thought, well yeah, travel around. And then I thought, you know, I’ve always wanted to volunteer to do something somewhere, you know, go to serve a meal on Christmas morning, wouldn’t that be cool. And so I started to light up with that idea, that idea resonated with me.

And then the next thought was, well where could I go, and I thought about nursing homes because I work in the medical area and I have several connections with nursing homes. And I thought well, yeah, I could go do that. I could go volunteer at a nursing home and just go be with some other people in their lives on a day that would really make a difference for people to have me there. And as I was taking my shower there just came this voice as almost as audible as I’m talking to you right now, and it said, ‘your mother is in a nursing home’.

Now, let me tell you this story on that. My mom fell and broke her hip, it was the summer of 2010, so she had been in the nursing home for a year – a little over a year, October 2010 to now we’re December 2011, she had dementia and we had found a beautiful facility for her to be in for her care in Kansas City about a mile from my brother’s house. Now, my brother and I had not had much of a relationship, well I dare say any relationship for almost a decade. Several things had happened that I’m not going to go into, but basically we just had not had a relationship. And as I had started to learn this material and as my life was shifting, one of the great things from getting free and starting to apply this to your life is the healing of past wounds and old grievances, and getting true forgiveness in your life and restoring those really important relationships that are precious to you. And more than anything in the world I wanted a restored relationship with my brother. Now, that was something that my conscious mind and subconscious mind were in complete clarity and complete harmony, I wanted a restored relationship with my brother. But it was slow coming and I could understand, I could see from his perspective. And I got over in his eyes and I saw what it was like for him. And I was like, I’m just going to give this time and give this space and let the process work.

When mom broke her hip in the summer of 2010, my brother and I began to start to work through some of the issues. And one of the deliberate things that I did was just laid down anything, I just was in complete support of my brother as he was taking the lead in the situation, that I was in complete support. I helped him find an initial facility for her in Tulsa. And there were several other things that we worked together on, finally got her situated in this beautiful facility in Kansas City, but then things had kind of settled back down to normal because she was doing okay and there wasn’t much to talk about. So when this little voice said, ‘your mother is in a nursing home’, I knew that I had to contact my brother and see if there was a possible door that might open for me to go up to Kansas City for Christmas.

This is one of those mornings that I’ll never forget, I got out of the shower, toweled off as quickly as I could, went over to my computer and I typed this sentence, I said, ‘what would it look like for me to come to Kansas City to see mom for Christmas’, I just put it out there, that’s all I did, I put it out. And then detached from the outcome because I knew if it didn’t work out, that was fine, I had other options that I could pursue some other things. But here was this really clear voice that had just captured me. So I knew that there was something more behind it.

A couple of days later my brother wrote back and he said, ‘it would thrill her to no end’, that was it. With that I made plans to go to Kansas City. I wasn’t going to impose. I was going to fly up, rent a car, stay in a motel, if we saw each other, great, if not, I would spend some time with my mom and then fly back. A couple of days after that I was having dinner with my daughter and I told her about my plans and she got really excited, she said, “Really! Could I go with you? Could I go to Kansas City to see granny as well?” Oh man, that would have been awesome. So now I’ve got an open door in Kansas City and now my daughter wants to jump on board, how cool is that. When my brother and his wife found out that my daughter wanted to come, oh, they were just thrilled. So they opened up their home and said, “Well why don’t you two stay with us?” Okay, do you see where this is going? And then my son found out about it, and he said, “Oh, are you kidding, you and my uncle are going to be together for Christmas.” He said, “Well, I’ve got to be there.” And so he jumped on board and what ended up happening is my son, my daughter and I went to Kansas City together and we spent five days and six nights in my brother’s home completely reconnecting as a family. We were able to see my mom, take her out to dinner, had her over on Christmas day that year, there was snow on the ground, I’m telling you, it was just a magical experience, it was my miracle on 34th Street. It was amazing.

But it all triggered from that shower and from listening to my subconscious mind tell me, ‘go see your mother’. And that opened up all the rest of it. I didn’t have to do anything. All I had to do at that point was just be in the space and be in the path, the rest of it literally unfolded in front of me. I hope that that story encourages you, because no matter where you are in your path, when you learn to listen to your subconscious mind like I’m talking about here, then literally this type of thing can unfold in front of you all the time. And you can start to take on bigger things. I’m working right now on programming my subconscious mind for some major, major things to happen by July 1st of this year. And my subconscious mind has been challenging me and doubting me and there has been resistance there. And so I’m working through the process of reprogramming it, pressing the images of what I want to occur on my subconscious mind so that it gets convinced and then goes out into the fulfillment of what we’re talking about.

Now remember, we started today by talking about those times of the day when we can connect our subconscious mind and our conscious mind. Now, I firmly believe in the power of audio because so many things were spoken to me in my early programming. Remember that pastor who spoke to me, “You are my biggest disappointment.” Those were words that were spoken to me. And so I thought if words could program me one way, certainly I could use them to program me in a different direction. And that is so true. And one of the products that I found early on in my process was from brainsync.com. Now, on my website at www.subliminalmindmastery.com, over on the right hand side I have a link box to Brain Sync. And if you go there you will find a number of MP3 downloadable audios produced by Kelly Howell and one of the really cool things about Kelly Howell is in her own personal story, she talks about how she got into this business and it was almost the same thing as the Kansas City story. It was almost, go do audio, you know, you’ll be alright. And that’s what happened to her and she has had an amazing career over several decades working in this space of creating these various audio productions, these audio meditations. But the added ingredient is the music that she has also created. She brings your brain into various brain states.

And look, I’m not going to go into it right now. You can go on the website and do some research about the various brain states, she has a great tab there that will walk you all the way through what particular brain state produces, what particular connection with the subconscious mind. And then she’ll show you the products that she has for that particular brain state. So I bought some of her downloadable products and I started listening to them right away with my headphones on my iPod. And some of the titles that I listened to was kind of one of her base products is Brain Power, and there’s Awakening Kundalini, and Attracting Wealth and Deep Meditation and Deep Sleep was another one. And I’ll tell you how I used to sleep here in just a second. There are some other ones that helped me a lot even focusing during the day. She has High Focus and Pure Focus, there’s one called Sacred Ground which takes you to a higher spiritual level, Total Relaxation, The Secret to Attracting Wealth.

But the other thing that she has developed are several that are for sleeping. So there’s Deep Sleep for example. Now, these are designed for you to use with headphones, that’s how this music affects your brainwave frequency. But how do you wear headphones while you’re sleeping, if you wanted to listen to these while you were drifting off to sleep or even listen to them through the night? There is a product that you can buy off of her website that is a … it’s like a headband I guess is the best way to describe it. But it has a wire coming off of it and there are little embedded speakers in there so that you can put over your ears. It’s not perfect, I mean you toss and turn and it does come off and it twists and various things, but listen, if you’re really serious about turning your life around, and I was dead dog serious about changing my life, I would go to any extent to make it happen. And when I go back and look at my own life and look at where did it shift, where did it click, where did it shift into gear? It was during the time that I was listening to these meditation audios at night. So one of the greatest gifts that I could do is to pass on to you the things that helped me change my life so dramatically, so go check out Brain Sync, go to my website, subliminalmindmastery.com, click on that Brain Sync box and that will take you to my affiliate site to her website, and go shopping. And you can download them, they’re 9.95 a piece and there are some discounts if you buy more. And you can download them immediately and get this started in the next 10 minutes, literally you can be on your way. And yes, I still listen to them today.

I hope this podcast has been an encouragement to you. This is how you reprogram your subconscious mind. Go stop by Brain Sync, begin the process, journal, capture those thoughts and then begin to impress new thoughts on your subconscious mind in the direction that you want to go. I’m Thomas Miller. Thank you for listening.

Podcast 4 – The Law of Polarity

Play

There is ONE great Universal Law and 7 sub-laws.  The entire universe operates with precision within these laws of the universe.  The one, single thing that does not operate within these laws is the thinking human mind.

When we bring our conscious, thinking mind in alignment with our subconscious mind, which can only operate within these laws, miracles begin to happen.

This podcast explores these laws, particularly one – The Law of Polarity.

You know that there is really one great universal law and there are seven sub laws off of that one great law. And the whole universe works in this form and fashion according to these laws. They are as certain as the law of gravity. But because we are conscious thinking human beings a lot of the time we don’t operate according to these laws because we think we can operate outside of them.

Hello everyone, my name is Thomas Miller. Thank you for joining the podcast and the website is subconsciousmindmastery.com. It’s a place where we talk about how you can program your subconscious mind in such a way through thoughts and energy and visualization and beliefs and so impress that on the subconscious mind that it will then connect with that great energy of the universe to bring about its fulfillment, because that is the great law of the universe, that energy is. If you adopt it from a scientific standpoint you say that energy is, if you adopt it from a theology standpoint you say that God is. But the commonality is that there is a great spirit, there is a great connectivity or interconnectivity throughout the entire universe. I’m impressed by Wallace Waddles, wrote The Science of Getting Rich back in the early 1900s, almost 100 years ago. And in the book he says that there is a formless substance that fills every void and every space in the universe. It’s the same concept, however you visualize it or grasp it in your mind but that is the realm that our subconscious mind operates in.

Now, from that one great law that energy is there are seven sub laws and these laws are as predictable as the law of gravity. We’ve never had to have the law of gravity explained to us because we knew that it was there from the very beginning, as soon as we dropped our pacifier it went to the floor and it goes to the floor every time. If you look at the laws of agriculture, those laws are equally predictable, a seed goes into the ground, it dies, it germinates, it becomes a plant and it grows. That pattern is as predictable and you can count on it day in and day out on any continent of the world, any season of the year. There is a time to plant. There is a time to harvest. Our subconscious mind operates within the parameters of these seven laws governed by the great law that energy is, however our conscious mind does not. And that’s where the problem is, because we are thinking human beings with cognitive thinking ability. We often think that we can operate outside of the laws and we don’t think that we have to know the laws in order to create what we want because we feel that our conscious mind, our will and our volition can take us where we think we want to go.

I have two very exciting episodes of this podcast that we will release soon. They are two, part one and part two interviews with a friend of mine, Dr. David Slater. Dr. Slater had a skydiving accident when he was in college at Texas ANM University, and as a result had an out of body experience. And then in his 30s he had another situation where he was forced to rebuild his life and shift in a different direction again. And he has some very interesting theories that we are going to share with you on why we can’t affect change in our life and why we’re stuck on certain areas where we just can’t move forward. And it’s all around this central thesis, this theme of our subconscious mind drives everything that happens in our life. So please be sure to catch those episodes, I know that they will touch you deeply.

So let’s look at these seven laws, particularly we’ll focus on one of them and look at how it affects several areas of our life. These are in no particular order, one law is not greater than the other one, doesn’t build on the other, they all stand individually but I’m going to list them in such a way that the one that we want to focus on is mentioned last. The first that we’ll consider is the law of perpetual transmutation. This law basically says that something is always moving into form. A lot of times we forget that. The reason I say this is because if we have a negative thought or if we have a thought that doesn’t take us in the direction that we want to go, like I can’t pay my bills this month, something is always moving into form. And if you think that and you create that, that is what is going to move into form. When you really grasp the law of perpetual transmutation it will change the way that you think because you’ll realize that something is always happening out there in front of you and your thought is going to direct what happens in the path in the events of your future. And so it will completely shift the way that you think.

Another law is the law of relativity, this law says that there’s nothing big or small, close or far, that basically everything just is. It’s only a matter of perspective as to whether it’s big or small, good or bad, close or far, hot or cold, it’s all relative. My take on a situation, might be completely different than your take on the situation. Neither is right or wrong, they both just are.

Now, let’s talk about the law that is the basis of the law of attraction, it’s the law of vibration, like kind magnetizes like kind. I’m sure you’re familiar with the work of Esther Hicks and her channeled being Abraham. Esther outside of the movie, The Secret, I think has done more to popularize and teach on the law of vibration, that like mind magnetizes like kind, when you’re in a negative vibration you will attract negativity to you, it’s magnetic, and that is the law of attraction. When you finally shift into that internal subconscious vibration, that internal energy wave that aligns your subconscious with your conscious, that’s when you begin to attract things into your life. The problem is that most of the time we are in some way in conflict with those two realms, but that’s what this website is about. So stay with us we have a lot of material that we can cover over the years ahead.

The next law is the law of rhythm. Everything moves to and fro, you have a high tide, you have a low tide. You have seasons changing throughout the year, up and down, in and out, backward and forward, everything is always moving to and fro, the law of rhythm. Not everything in your life is always going to be going great guns and conversely when you’re going through one of those slumps and things just seem to be going wrong, that’s not going to last forever either, there will be a season, there will be a tide, there will be a change, just stay in the law of rhythm and realize that nothing lasts forever.

The next law is the law of cause and effect, Emerson called this the law of laws, the Bible calls it the golden rule, basically what you put out you get back. No law is greater than the other, but this law certainly affects so many areas of our life. It’s often said that if you put a negative out you’ll get a negative right back, but if you put a positive out, you have to incubate it and it will take a little bit of time but eventually you’ll get a positive back. Certainly you know the implications of this in relationships, in marriage, in dating if you’re single, in interoffice harmony at work, what you put out you will get back. Sow a positive seed expect to get a positive seed back. Sow a negative seed you’ve just made a withdrawal from that bank account.

The next law is the law of gender, basically like the seed that is planted in the ground there is a gestation period, there is a growing time between our idea and its manifestation. Sometimes that’s a long period of time. Sometimes that’s quite quickly. Our role is to trust the universe, trust that great energy, trust the spirit of God that that time will happen in just the right season according to the fulfillment of our desires. It’s not ours to consider how it’s going to happen or when it’s going to happen but just to hold that it will happen.

The seventh and final law and the one that we are going to spend some time on is the law of polarity. The law of polarity says that everything has an equal opposite, for up there’s down, for black there’s white. The law also states that these opposites are of equal force. So if you say, “Something bad has happened to me”, the law of polarity will shift it to think there’s something good out there as well in equal and opposite force. So if you think something has really bad happened to you then you should be on the lookout for something really good to happen to you. So how can we put this to work in our daily lives? Well let’s say that you get an idea, you think it’s a great idea and you run it by your friends or your boss and they don’t think it’s such a good idea, in fact there’s resistance to your great idea. And if you don’t get it by going to your friends or your boss, take it to your banker, try to convince him. There you’ll get some resistance and you’ll find out that really the rest of the world doesn’t think that you’ve come across such a great idea. I don’t think there’s been anything that anybody could point to in history where somebody came up with an idea and the world rolled out a red carpet at their feet, even Bill Gates or Steve Jobs or Donald Trump or some of these incredible pioneers of the various thing that we know are greatness of our generation, they all had obstacles and they all had things that they had to overcome in building their various empires. And so it’s no different for you and me in our lives. If you come up with a great idea expect through the law of polarity that there’s going to be resistance, just be ready for it and don’t be surprised, upset or offended when it shows up.

Now, let’s take the game up a step, if you make a commitment, so now your idea is on the line, you’ve said, “I will commit to this.” The resistance is even going to be greater, the universe will test your resolve, the bigger the commitment you can expect the bigger the challenge. Think about this in the world of sales, you target a client, the great piece of business that you’d like to go after and they won’t even return your calls. I chased a television client for almost two years back when I was in television production, but it ended up being the defining moment of my career and it became my largest piece of business for over 12 years. That’s a long time in the television world. So the more they resist the more you should expect demand calling to existence a more and greater and bigger return. The same is true for relationships, health or anything else that you can think of to take on. Any idea or commitment, according to the law of polarity will be met with a challenge, with resistance.

The key then in how you operate within this law is that you persist. You’ve developed a vision in your mind, you’ve written it down, you’ve spoken it out to other people, you continue taking action in that direction, use the steps that we’ve already talked about in podcasts and in the blog articles, visualize it in your mind, write it down in your journal, speak it out to other people who will hold you accountable and they will support you in this vision, take the steps necessary to keep moving in that direction, check with your subconscious to make sure that it’s in harmony with your conscious mind and that there’s not some kind of disagreement there that’s keeping the action from unfolding. If there is, take the steps necessary to reprogram your subconscious mind by impressing your belief with emotion and visualization, vivid images that you can impress on your mind so that your subconscious and your conscious mind become aligned, that’s the gestation period. Remember these laws operate in harmony and sometimes it just takes time to get both sides of your brain headed in the right direction. But the point is, don’t give in to the resistance. Realize the law of polarity says the resistance will come, it’s part of the universal way. What happens is that we often meet that resistance and we give up, we don’t stay true and we don’t stay focused. So let your intuition keep guiding you, listen to your subconscious. Be persistent, don’t give up, never ever quit, there is an equal and opposite benefit for you over on the other side, life always cycles, expect it and don’t resist it during those shadowy times. If this is your first time stopping in, thank you for joining us. If you’re coming back for a weepy visit, glad to have you back. My name is Thomas Miller and we talk about on this podcast, the influence and the power of your subconscious mind. And today we are going to go straight in on the conversation because I believe literally that this lesson and this session that we are going to talk about literally can change every event, belief and resulting circumstance of your entire life. This is at the core of how your subconscious mind gets programmed and the steps that you can take to reprogram it. Now, that’s a pretty bold statement.

So while we’re putting bold statements on the table, let’s just put another one down as well. This is a quote from Joseph Murphy, author of the Power of Your Subconscious Mind. He says everything that has happened to you is because of the thoughts impressed on your subconscious mind by belief.   The reason that I’m doing this website and these podcasts is that for nearly 50 years thoughts drove the outcomes of my life but they were not according to what I wanted to have unfold in my life. So I found myself at nearly 50 years old looking back at the previous three or four decades thinking, this is not what I was thinking when I got out of high school. And as I finally unpacked everything that had happened that led me to where I was at that point in my life I realized that there was one common and predictable and patternable consistency through the whole thing, and that was everything that had happened in my life was something that correlated to a belief, a thought, a feeling, an emotion or a programming either in my conscious or subconscious mind. It was something I either believed consciously or it was something that was suggested or programmed or just ingrained in me since I was a child that had become part of my subconscious mind’s programming. And for an example of that you could go back and listen to the first podcast where I tell that story of the pastor from the Baptist church where I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma who told me when I was about 24 or 25 years old that I was the biggest disappointment that he had ever had in his ministry and how that affected the rest of my adult life.

And I would dare say that there are things that have happened to you from either your parents, school teachers, other kids, a spouse, a child of your own, it doesn’t matter what the source. But I would imagine that things have been said or suggested or implied or happened to you that if you unwind and unravel them like you would a ball of twine you’ll see how that programming affected your conscious mind in a number of events, circumstances and outcomes in your life could be tied directly to that. Now, the other thing that’s very important for me and I mentioned it just a minute ago but I want to reemphasize it, is that the things that I’m discussing here to me are how the laws of the universe operate. In the next podcast we’re going to take a look at the one great universal law and seven subsidiary laws.

And we’re going to focus on one of those seven laws in particular and it’s not the law of attraction, I’ll tell you that right now, because you’ve heard a lot about the law of attraction. We’re going to take one of the laws that you haven’t heard so much about and show you how it directly applies to so many circumstances in the events that unfold in your life. These laws are as certain as the law of gravity. The law of gravity is known to everyone, it is predictable, it is consistent, it will happen every time. And these seven laws that we are going to start to look at in the next session are equally as predictable, equally as certain and equally affecting every area of your life.   The challenge is very few people operate according to the laws of the universe, they don’t understand them and even when we do understand them it is often difficult to keep our conscious mind and our subconscious mind in perfect sync. They often are at a tug-of-war with each other and that’s when we get conflicting results in our life. We either get no result, we get a negative result because of a programming that we really just don’t even understand or the thoughts and beliefs that we consistently hold in our mind will eventually program our subconscious mind and that will lead our life in that direction.

Wernher von Braun was one of the pioneers of the space program and he said that the laws of the universe are so predictable that we can program a computer to fly a man to the moon, land him there and return him to a precise spot on the earth with an amazing degree of accuracy. The laws of the universe are patternable and they will affect every area of your life. Now, let’s talk about how our mind operates. You know that you have a conscious mind and you have a subconscious brain. And I’m not going to go into the various parts of where the brain operates from. I work in the medical field and I’ve heard this discussed and have studied it extensively myself. And I think we get caught up too much in the mechanics of how it works and forget or undermine that it works. So let’s don’t worry about the limbic system and let’s don’t worry about the frontal lobe and the hippocampus and all this stuff. Let’s just focus on that you have conscious thought. I’m not telling you anything you don’t know, some scientists have said 60,000 original thoughts a day. But you know that your brain is always thinking, it’s always analyzing and you’re talking to yourself all day long. And then you have that deeper self, that unconscious you as Freud described it, that what we call the subconscious mind.

The subconscious mind doesn’t reason, it doesn’t think, it doesn’t analyze, it doesn’t know relativity, it doesn’t say this is hot or this is cold or this is good or this is bad, it simply accepts what is pressed upon it by emotion and belief from the conscious mind and it works to make that come to pass. They say that the human brain is the most incredible super computer that’s ever been developed. I would definitely agree because the subconscious mind can capture and hold every emotion, event, activity, response, thought, occurrence, event, outcome, everything, it captures all of that and it accumulates that for your self protection. The subconscious mind also takes your suggestions through connecting with the universe and turns them into conditions, experiences and events that eventually will fulfill the purpose of the belief that was impressed upon it. Now, you already know this but let’s emphasize because we’re laying the groundwork, the seed, the soil for how we’re going to grow what we’re going to be talking about. You know that everything that we see around us in the world of matter around us is comprised and made up of molecular energy. If you’re taking a scientific approach you call it energy, everything is energy. If you take an approach from theology you say that everything exists and the nature of everything is God. The Hindus would say that matter; those things that we see around us are the lowest form of energy. And the spirit world is the highest form of energy. I grew up as a Christian and Christianity teaches that there is a holy spirit that permeates the world.

There’s an interesting book written by a gentleman by the name of Wallace Waddles – W-A-D-D-L-E-S, it’s called The Science of Getting Rich. It was written almost 100 years ago. And in it Wallace Waddles describes a formless substance that permeates and fills every void of the universe. If you think about a formless substance, if you think about an interconnectivity between literally every material space, everything that we see around us is filled by this energetic field, this formless substance, this spirit, this energy. You see where I’m going with this? Put your own comfortable label on it, but just go with me that there is not vast space between New York and Los Angeles, but think about an interconnectivity, a formless substance, a spirit, God himself, the energy of the universe that exists so that if you’re in New York and you need something, that the resource for it to meet your need is in Los Angeles, that there is a common and uniting thread that will eventually bring the two of you together. Can you believe that?

Maybe it sounds too mystic or new age, would you just try it on and try it on from this standpoint, that if you will study and master what we’re talking about, learn it and apply it to your life and then see if it does not consistently patternably show up time after time after time as you begin to use this to manifest the things that you create in your mind and begin to see them unfold in the material world. If you will begin to harness the power of your subconscious mind and begin to use it effectively in every area of your life, at some point you will look back over the years of your life and you’ll realize that the beliefs that you held fast in the image and the imagination of your subconscious mind have indeed come to pass. And I have such a passion especially to teach this material to young people, people in their teens and 20s and even preteens so that they don’t have to go through what I went through and miss decades of their life because of bad or mis-programming or because life just is so hard in those formulative years that they just give up. You don’t have to live a life like that.

It doesn’t matter where you are now, if you grasp this material then you will be able to look past your current circumstances, create in your mind where you want to go, impress that on your subconscious mind so that it will then go out into that formless substance, that energy, that God’s spirit that fills every void of the universe and begin to bring about the fulfillment of your desires. I can honestly tell you this is starting to happen in my life with such consistency now that I can even apply it to the little small details of my routine day. And I’m going to give you an example.

To create this podcast there’s certain equipment that I need. I have had for the last 15 years a Mackie mixer board. It’s a certain piece of equipment that you can buy at various retail locations who sell this type of thing. Here in the Dallas Fort Worth area it’s Guitar Center. It’s really important to me that these podcasts sound broadcast professional quality. And my 15 year old Mackie board had finally developed a hum in it that, well it really just needs to be either serviced by somebody who knows far more about the inner workings of such equipment than I or it needed to be replaced. So without visualizing anything, just knowing that I kind of knew the market and I knew the space I headed out to the largest guitar center store in the north Dallas area and I was going to go buy a new board. But I hadn’t thought about it. I hadn’t preyed about it. I hadn’t envisioned anything in particular. I just went to the store because they are known to have the largest inventory.

Well nothing worked out, it just … I was trying to put a round peg through a square hole it seemed. I chose one board that was like, well I’ll see if this will work and I brought it home and of course it didn’t, there were several features about it that just didn’t work for me. So I took that board back to another store that was closer to me, so I didn’t go back to the same store. And on the way I decided to apply the very thing that I knew that we were going to be talking about together here. And I visualized exactly the board that I wanted, I thought of the number of inputs, the features, the price, I thought of everything that I wanted because I didn’t want to spend too much, this is a podcast after all, I mean I don’t need an excessive amount of equipment here, and I visualized exactly what I wanted. So I went to this different store and I started to work out the details of the exchange. And they were showing me their line of mixers which were similar to the other store but there was one difference, there was one mixer that was exactly what I wanted. Oh, and by the way, it was on sale, 10% off. And, oh, by the way, they only had one. It was exactly what I had visualized not even an hour before as I was on my way there. This is the kind of detail, this is the kind of way that you can begin to use your conscious mind pressing onto your subconscious to let it lead you into exactly what you want, I almost got chills down my spine.

And as I’m looking at this board I realize the story behind it, that that is the manifestation of my thoughts that I created before I even went to the store. Is this a little far out for you? Is this a little weird? I hope it’s not because as you began to harness what your mind can do, then you literally will be able to apply it in every area of your life.

Alright, let’s jump into some processes now. I want to give you some specific steps of things that have really helped me turn things around in analyzing a directional shift, in other words you’re headed in this direction and now you want something different.

Number one – clearly identify what isn’t working, this is what I did in that year in the RV, I literally picked my life apart thread by thread and captured it in probably five journals. I don’t know how many there are, there’s a stack of them in a box now in my garage because I’m past the journaling of that. But it really helped me to capture it and write it down. So list specifically what in your life, what area of your life is not working for you.

Number two – and this became very important for me, determine the very earliest recollection of when this happened in your life, go back in your memory as far as you can into your childhood, your teenage years, wherever it very first showed up.

And number three – look all the way around that situation, determine what it was that created the thought, the suggestion, the belief, was it a person, a situation, maybe an environment, perhaps the result of an action? What caused you to come up with the belief or the condition that led to the circumstances and the actions that unfolded the way that you have determined that you didn’t want them to come out?

One of the formulative things in my life happened when I was about three years old and my mum basically what happened was that she kind of brushed me off. I made a request for her to come tuck me into bed and she was right in the middle of a television program and she said, “I’ll come in when I get through watching the show.” What I made that mean was, I don’t matter, I’m no good, I’m not worth her attention. Was any of that true? Hell no, she was probably exhausted after chasing two kids around the house all day. There was probably a show that she was interested in watching. These were the black and white television days, folks, and there was no DVR. So she had to sit there and watch the rest of it and she was just putting her feet up for a few minutes. So I made it mean something that it completely didn’t. But it was formulative and I could see how many times and how many ways I made that literally a programming of my subconscious mind so that it permeated my existence. So you’ve captured your belief. You’ve traced it back as far as you can see. You’ve looked at all the circumstances around it. You’ve even, like I did, like I just told you, analyzed it for what was really the truth of the situation.

Now, let’s formulate a new belief, this is the seed, this is the genesis, this is the beginning of how we reprogram our subconscious mind. Now, there is a little trick that I’m going to tell you that’s as valuable as anything that you could ever imagine. Do the opposite. Do you remember that Seinfeld episode, you can search it up on YouTube, it’s called, just search Seinfeld, Do the Opposite. And the little skit is where George is always getting the same result and finally Jerry challenges him to, hey, you always get the same thing, so why don’t you just try something different. Do exactly the opposite. And so there’s a pretty girl up at the counter of the restaurant where they were having dinner, George goes over and instead of saying, “Oh, I’m not going to ask her out, she won’t be interested in talking to me.” And that’s the normal thing that he would do. This time he goes over to the counter and it’s really funny, you have to watch the episode. But of course the way that it works out is that she’s glad to talk to him and they end up going out with each other.

But the point is, you don’t like where you are now and you’ve been doing certain things to get you up to this point, formulate and opposite perspective on the situation. Be specific, the more vivid and descriptive you can be, the better. If you really want to put some sizzle into change, write it down. Remember the journal, if you’re even more serious, speak it out, tell somebody who you know will have a listening for you who will stand with you in your new commitment and even hold you accountable to it. Speak it out. I have a direction that I want to go in my life specifically. And I did a speech at our toastmasters club about a month ago and the title of my speech was, I Must Do This. And it was me simply speaking out into the universe with a group of people who would agree with me where I wanted my life to go. Speak it out. And if you’re really serious about it, put some visuals around your house that will remind you of it, vision boards. I want to move to Colorado. And so I have clippings of Colorado in strategic key places in my house where I know that my eyes will fall on them several times a day. So at least at a minimum, create the image in your mind. Second – write it down specifically. Third – speak it out to somebody who will stand with you. Fourth – create visuals in your world so you’ll see it over and over and over.

Oh, this material is so good and we’re running out of time, I apologize. I really want to keep these podcasts to under about 18-20 minutes. But may I just tell you about my brother. This very thing happened to him, right now as I’m recording this, he is packing up a 40 foot Winnebago RV and he and his wife are going to launch out and the first place they’re coming is here to the Dallas Forth Worth Metroplex. They are embarking on a six month journey of semi-retirement where they are going to travel the country in an RV. It has been a dream of his for probably a decade. Do you know how he manifest it, because his wife was not in favor of anything to do with travelling around in an RV? Well they bought this beautiful 40 foot diesel pusher Winnebago RV. And the way that he manifest it was that he made the picture of an RV, the desktop image of his laptop computer.

And do you know, this is what’s so just bizarre about this, he took a picture of about four RVs that were lined up on a beach one day that they happened to just stop in this little RV park and there were some units that were parked right up against the water and this one was jutting out just a little farther than the others. And so you could see about the first third of it or so and it was a Winnebago and a particular model and a particular color. Well you know where I’m going with this story. His is that model and that color. It took a couple of years to manifest but the time wasn’t right. And as we’ve looked back and my mother passed away and now the time is there and he is free and released and they are going to go travel and fulfill a dream that has been in his heart and his passion and his subconscious mind with that visual image of that screensaver right in front of him every day when he saw that multiple times a day, finally brought it to pass in just the right time.

Alright, so here’s the sizzle, third – you have to impress this new image on your subconscious mind to the point where it becomes an unchallenged belief. And oh, this is where we fight ourselves so hard because if you develop a mental image that you want to be wealthy and you can’t pay next month’s bills, your conscious mind wars with your subconscious mind for the fulfillment of that because you’re always looking at where you are right now. If people in the office don’t like you and you want a promotion and you want a better job, you can’t get past the fact that the people in the office today are jerks and they’re treating you terribly and you have a boss that won’t promote you and all the various things that keep your conscious mind locked into today’s thinking. So this is the most difficult challenging thing you can possibly take on, is to not look at where you are now but create that vision of where you want to go in your conscious mind and so impress it on your subconscious mind that it begins to believe in that vision along with you. When you do that your entire life begins to change. You’ve heard the expression, once you put your mind to it there’s nothing you can’t do, well this is how the universe comes to your aid to create what may seem to you as impossible.

The key to this part of the process is to so permeate your subconscious mind that it believes what you are impressing on it to the point where it will create its fulfillment. And by the way, this can be positive or negative. I had a subtle vision in my mind from probably when I was in my 30s on, this was … it was not a childhood vision, it was something that came up in my adult years, but I had this image of myself alone in the woods, kind of like a miner back in California in the 1850s. But I had this … it wasn’t anything I focused on but it was just this … I tell you, it was in my subconscious because after my second divorce as I was doing all that journaling and spending that year … spending that year in an RV, one day I realized that I was in there by myself working out my existence alone, nobody around and I recalled that vision and I realized that it had come true. I didn’t want that for the rest of my life so I’ve gone to great extent to change that vision and now I am in exactly the place that I want to be and it’s amazing. Well I want to be in Colorado but we’re working on that and you’ll see that unfold through the course of this podcast. So often you will see in your life where this has been used negatively. The challenge now is to begin to use it positively.

So let’s review the steps.

Identify all the details of what’s not working.

Second – trace it back to the earliest point in your life when you can recall it showing up.

Third – analyze everything around you to determine how that belief or suggestion permeated itself into your subconscious.

Number four – create a new belief, you have to do the opposite, come up with something that’s 180 degrees out of where you’ve been headed if that’s the direction that you want to go.

And finally, impress the new belief on your subconscious mind through repetition and vivid visual imagery.

There are a lot of tools and techniques that can help you with this and that will be the subject of future blogs and podcasts. The journey has begun and I hope that you are as excited as I am for the possibilities. Your life can literally change into everything that you’ve ever wanted it to be.   So I always want to leave you with a call to action, something to challenge you to do something. I want you to identify what isn’t working for you, do that first.   Take a long hard deep look at your life and pick something that you want to work on, write it down, journal it and then begin to work through these steps one by one. I’d love to invite you to leave a comment of what you found and what you are doing. There’s something powerful in putting things in writing and this is a great place to start to do that. The next thing I’d like to ask you to do is tell your friends, share this podcast and the website with somebody that you think would benefit from it, subconscious mind mastery.

Thank you for listening.

Podcast 1 – Introduction to Subconscious Mind Mastery

Play

For several years, I’ve always wanted to launch a website and podcast. I’ve been impressed with the work of people like Kelly Howell, whose own work has been an inspiration. Now it’s time. This is an introduction to me and the site. I trust you’ll enjoy us getting to know each other a little bit.  Welcome to the program called Subconscious Mind Mastery.

I’m Thomas Miller, and this is a story of my journey from failure to consciousness. This is a work in progress, so let’s grow together!

TRANSCRIPTION:

This is subconscious mind mastery podcast number 1 recorded on Easter Sunday March 31st, 2013.

And thank you for joining us for this very first podcast of this new website launch called subconscious mind mastery. My name is Thomas Miller. I live in Dallas, Texas. And this is the first podcast and so this is obviously going to be an introductory podcast to tell you a little bit about the site and a little bit about myself. So we’re going to keep this to about 12-15 minutes. So thank you for joining us, this will get us started and then there’s going to be a lot of great content and interaction to follow. Already we have a couple of good posts. I would point you especially to the one that is the 12 minute long video of Bob Procter. I’ve never heard a better explanation of what the subconscious mind is than what Bob does in describing that 12 minutes that he did on how you got to where you are, how your subconscious mind was programmed to be the way that it is. And then of course the follow through is how to reprogram it so that you can literally direct yourself from the inside out of how you’d like to live the life of your dreams.

So what is the subconscious mind? Freud called it the unconscious mind, that mind that you don’t have a cognitive relationship with, to many it’s intuition or gut feeling or instinct or that little voice in your head. But as Bob Procter pointed out so brilliantly, the subconscious mind is programmed. It’s partially genetic and then a big part is environmental. I heard a great explanation of this from Dr. Sean Sullivan, his website is the mindmaster.com and he has a clinical practice in the San Francisco Bay area. And he’s developed a 21 day program called the Mind Mastery Program. This was something that I found a couple of years ago and did it on my iPad and as I got further into I thought, oh my goodness, this is an amazing program. Dr. Sullivan describes the subconscious mind this way. Think of a bridge and under the bridge of course is the water; above the bridge as he describes it is a night sky. I’m not going to go into the descriptions of what the water represents and what the night sky represents, we’ll talk about that later because I love his program and we’ll talk about it in future podcasts.

But between you, your conscious self you and where you want to go over there on the other side of the bridge, the goals, the aspirations, the dreams, the things that you’d like to achieve is a bridge keeper on that bridge. And so every time you try to cross the bridge the bridge keeper is there to remind you of all the things and all the reasons and all the circumstances and literally that bridge keeper has been storing every memory, every experience, every emotion, everything that has ever happened to you and the bridge keeper only has one purpose in mind and that is to keep you safe. It really is an amazing composition how we humans are designed because that subconscious, that unconscious part of our brain is literally programmed by all of life’s experiences to keep us safe. So how does the bridge keeper get programmed? Well like I said, partially it’s genetic, I think all of us are born with some genetic predisposition to be the way that we’re going to be. I don’t think you could argue that. But then literally from the day you’re born and I would even encourage to explore possibly before you were born, now it gets a little weird and let’s don’t get into that yet, I’ll lay the groundwork for that better a little later.

But think about since the day you were born everything that happened to you, how your parents treated you, what took place repetitiously in your life, all the attitudes, all the actions, all of the responses, all of the people, the places, the things, the memories, the experiences, think about it, the pain, the pleasure, what gave you peace and comfort, what upset you, what caused you to be anxious, what caused you to be fearful, what gave you strength and ambition or what held you back. All of these things and more go into programming your subconscious mind so whenever you try to get from here to there, no matter what the over there, don’t misunderstand that the over there is not the Nirvana, Utopia, laying on the beach and sipping pina coladas and working off your laptop all day, that’s not what I’m talking about, it’s anything that you want to try to aspire.

Let’s say it’s a new relationship or a new job, a new career field, a new geography, a new location, just joining a gym or doing something different in your life, it really doesn’t matter, but between you, the conscious you here and there is that bridge keeper. And every time you try to go over there all the circumstances and the circumstances are what Dr. Sullivan represents as the water below, all the things that you look at in that water underneath the bridge, the bridge keeper is reminding you, you’ll get in trouble if you go over there, remember last time, that didn’t work out so well. Oh no, don’t go there, you’ll lose all your money, you can’t do that. Don’t go with her, she’s trouble. And then sometimes based on improper information the bridge keeper will cause you to go in certain directions, oh yeah, come on; remember how the last time that happened and it worked out okay. But really it’s something that you shouldn’t do. So in these cases the subconscious mind is only operating out of 100% complete desire to keep you safe. It wants to use all the things, all the resources, all the memories, all the emotions of your past to keep you on the right track.

The problem is a lot of the times those emotions and those memories and that programming is not what you need to serve you today because obviously we grow as human beings, we learn new experiences, we develop intuitions, we develop resources in our conscious mind that then have to be transmitted and imposed and watch the Bob Procter video, impressed on the subconscious mind. And once those new memories and those new patterns and those new circumstances are impressed on the subconscious mind then we are acting in harmony, our conscious mind and our subconscious mind to move us in a certain direction. But you know how powerful the subconscious mind is, that as a young person a little suggestion, a little comment, some little phrase or word from somebody can alter the entire course of the rest of your life. And I’m speaking from experience because the reason this site exists is that I’m going to explore the world with you of how to reprogram, unprogram, deprogram and reprogram powerfully your subconscious mind.

Let me tell you one of the things that happened to me and my story is amazing. And I’ll reveal more of it as we go along. But I grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and I was born into a very fundamental staunch religious family, Christianity. And if ever Christianity, you know, they talk about the Bible belt, if ever there was a buckle of the Bible belt Tulsa, Oklahoma was the buckle of the Bible belt. And so my whole world at home and at church revolved around the Bible, scripture and I had a very dominant mother who always expressed her will and desire for me. And I would also like to add that my mum passed away in February of 2013 and actually this website I am committing in memory and honor of her, not because she showed me how to reprogram my subconscious mind but actually created such a world and an opening that it gave me the exploration to go in and explore and unfortunately was something that she never did. I love my mum and I was at her bedside, I was holding her as she took her last breath. But she never came to the point where she was able to address the very issue and the very topic of this website. And it played out in our family. It played out in my life in a number of dramatically negative ways until finally I hit bottom at age 47. And I knew that I had to do something different and I knew that I had to live my life in a different way and that’s when I started to explore some of this material.

But back to my childhood and actually in high school at our Baptist church one Sunday night I made a commitment that I would go into the Christian ministry, that I would go to college, and then go to seminary and then become a pastor, a preacher. And I made that known to the church. Well my mother and our pastor could not have been happier, oh my, you talk about being people pleasers. I had just become the ultimate people pleaser. They were so thrilled that I did. Well, life took a couple of different turns and in my sophomore year of college I got into radio and broadcasting and then by my senior year of college I was doing the news, I was literally the anchor, the six and ten o’clock anchor of the ABC affiliate television station in Fayetteville, Arkansas, my senior year of college at 21 years old. And I went on from there after graduation to work at another television station.

Well, a couple of years after that I met the man who was our pastor growing up in high school, I’ll never forget it as long as I live, we met by some tennis courts in Vail, Colorado. We happened by a chance meeting to run into each other up there and he said, “Hey, I want to talk to you for a minute.” And he sat me down by those tennis courts and he proceeded to say this, he said, “In my ministry…” which by then he was in his late 30s and had been pastoring various congregations since he was about 20 years old. He said, “In the 15 years or so of my ministry there have only been two people who have really disappointed me.” And he mentioned a man who was currently living in Arkansas who had an affair with a church member and suffered a divorce as a result. And he mentioned him and then he looked at me and he said, “And you, you are my biggest disappointment in my ministry.” Well, I can honestly tell you I never heard anything else after that because this guy was huge in my life, he was a tremendous influence and I looked up to this guy. And I know that in his heart he was trying to bring me back to that commitment in high school. And I was wrong for not acknowledging that I had gone a different direction. I mean at least I could have cleaned that up in a number of different ways. That’s not the point here. The point is that this man said, “You are my biggest disappointment.” And he was a person who I really, really admired and looked up to.

And so that was a focal point for the rest of my adult life because as I looked back at my life as I was approaching 50 and looked at how many times I figured out a way to become a disappointment to people. I would disappoint employers and spouses and my kids and my friends and on and on through the course of my life as I unpacked it over hours and hours of reflection and filling up journal after journal after journal of notes. It opened up to me that that man spoke into my subconscious mind words that were so powerful that my conscious mind never had to acknowledge or hear them again for the rest of my adult life.

I had forgotten about that conversation, but it was so impermeated in my subconscious mind that it literally drove me to performance in every single area of my life for over 25 years. And I never put it together that that moment was a tipping point, a trigger point, a focal point for me for my adult life. And I never caught it. And so a lot of my adult life was missed because my subconscious had been actively programmed by words from somebody that I just didn’t say, “Thank you for sharing, I wasn’t on good ground with who I was. I was under the control and domination and fear of the lord and the church and the whole thing.” Which after I got to a point of dealing with it I kind of had to go to a whiteboard, you know, like taking a dry erase marker board and squirting that spray up on it and taking an eraser or a towel or something and just erasing it so it becomes completely white. That’s kind of what I had to do with religion and spirituality, is just like start over, you know, let’s redraw this picture. And I’m still putting the pieces and the parts of that together. But those words anchored into my subconscious mind and ended up driving every result of my adult life.

Finally then at age 47 I hit bottom after my second divorce and I sat down and I said, “I have got to figure out what’s going on with my life.” And that’s when I started to study this material and I started to learn how it works. And I found sources like Bob Procter and Dr. Sean Sullivan. They came to me in the quest of my journey. And so I don’t consider it an accident that you’ve landed on this web page, because you are seeking and we’ve connected here. And we’re going to walk through a journey together to help you identify and reprogram your subconscious mind. And in the process I’m doing it every day right along with you. What’s really cool about the internet is that we can involve sources from literally all over the world. And we’re going to create what I hope becomes a wildly and highly popular podcast and iTunes and Blackberry and other podcast feeds and we’ll interview great minds who have studied this field extensively. I mean after all I do have a radio background and so we can put that to use. And especially I hope to talk to you, our readers and listeners who have a multitude of information to share and experiences where you have changed your own life, all of this for the purpose of helping you really change your brain from the inside out. So I hope that you’ll bookmark this page, drawing our RSS feed for the podcast, stop by often and tell your friends. Thank you for listening to podcast number 1 of subconscious mind mastery.
